Why hermits didn’t like the cities (without high-power Hi-Fi Systems, cars…) long time ago?
Why hermits didn’t like theirs toxic low level neighbors, coworkers?

Are you a hermit? Did you know any hermits? They were once called "Hobo's" and you should look that word up.

They probably had some degree of autism, before that condition was even understood.

Maybe some of them. But hermits didn't necessarily hate people, they just preferred to spend most of their time apart from them.

Well, misanthropes don't necessarily hate people either.

Yes they do. That's how the word is defined.

There are multiple slightly different definitions though.

    http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/misanthrope

It can also mean general dislike of humanity, or general mistrust of humanity. Hatred doesn't necessarily comes into it.
Also, a misanthrope might hate, dislike or mistrust humanity (as a whole) but that doesn't mean they hate all people individually.
