well, HTL's have enough power to vaporize a small town, as per the RotS Novel.

It has been shown before, a couple times in ToS and it's been shown in Voyager with the Prometheus initiating Multi Vector Attack Mode at warp 1 against sub-light romulan ships.

Also, problem - the DS takes a LONG time to get into position (at least the first one did) and the second one was unshielded but for the moon's projection shield...

Also... Fed planets do have defensive grids... good luck getting past them. Then again, I'm sure the asteroid belt will do the job anyway *chuckles* Or do we REALLY need to go thru that again?

And a Tri-Cobalt device can vaporize a superdense starbase that's a few dozen kilometers across... in one hit.

A photon torpedo can be modified to affect a few lightyears of space...

A starship can withstand A FUCKING BLACK HOLE

The DoomsDayMachine can simply EAT the planet... and then nibble on the DS

My scenario of why ST would win any day.

100 Borg Cubes descend on the Death Star. What the hell are they going to do?
Absolutely nothing can be done. The Cubes will fly around faster than any ship in the Imperial fleet and never take a hit. Before the Empire's shields go up, they beam over a few drones who start assimilating everything. The Death Star is HUGE. Even if the Vader was on the base, he would need to travel a huge distance to get to the drones who would most likely have control over the transportation anyway. Exponentially, the Borg will assimilate more and more of the Death Star until the entire thing is Borg. Then, they will use all the technology in there, including the superlaser, turbolasers, shields, and hyperdrive to modify their own cubes. The Borg adapt quickly. Now the Borg have a Death Star and trillions of drones who can produce more. Miniaturized versions of the superlaser can be mounted on cubes. Hundreds of cubes will be using Federation sublight tech, transwarp, micro-warp jumps, transporters AND SW tech like turbolasers and supposedly superior shields and superlasers. Hell, the spherical shape of the Death Star is like an invite for the Borg to take it over. This can happen in a week or two.

Since all ST forces would be working together, small stealth ships can sneak into SW territory and open ruptures to fluidic space. Thousands of 8472 ships would pour out and entire worlds will be destroyed. They return from where they came and close the rift. If the Empire follows them into fluidic space, the rift closes and the Imperial forces are without backup.

Ground battles, planetary occupation would be widely in ST's favor due to transporters and superior firearms. One Phaser can take out everyone in a room with a single shot. Every soldier that dies to the Borg comes back as a Borg. The Borg have individual shields for every soldier. The Dominion (and likely, everyone else) can easily make mines that hide in subspace. There isnt even a need for ridiculous things like shuttles for planetary landing anymore due to transporters. Plus, if the Empire leaves its Galaxy and attacks the Milky Way, its own citizens would readily rebel. There arent any Milky Way governments who would have their own citizens do that (except the Maquis, but they dont have influence over any real powerful worlds).

And then there's Q. If SW gets to use supernatural ideas like the Force, why cant ST use Q or The Travelers.

And, ST gets use of time travel. Since the destruction of the Federation would necessitate the destruction of the Future Federation, which is canon, all timelines would have a vested interest in participating in this war and would do so. The Borg would have no qualms in traveling to Tatooine and killing Anakin before he met Qui Gon.

Section 31 and the Tal Shiar and the Obsidian Order, etc. would easily create diseases that only affect Galaxy Far Far Away species like they did for the Founders. There is no evidence the Empire or Republic would do this on a wide scale like Section 31 did.

All these strategies and tactics have precedent and/or proven capability of occuring. For example, the Borg have been shown to be able to open rifts to fluidic space, the Borg have shown capability to easily time travel and kill integral personalities in history, etc.

FFH...the Force is nothing more than telekenesis and telepathy, don't give it credit for more than it is (i.e. you don't even need to whip out the Q card). Betazoids, Vulcans, Medusans etc can easily dispel various Force attacks, and Ferengi are naturally immune. Borg and the shapeshifters of the Dominion of course are immune to telepathy.

Other than Betazoids and Vulcans - within the Federation that is, Starfleet folk are trained in telepathic resistance.

The only Force attacks that can get thru Betazoid resistance would be telekenetic. This assumes:

    1. The Betazoids do not attack (as opposed to merely resisting).
    2. That Force telekenetic attacks remain unparried by Starfleeters. For example it would be excessively stupid to assume that a Starfleet soldier would stand and wait for a saber wielding Sith/Jedi to approach them rather than firing a wide beam from his phaser. Or for a bridge crew to sit slackjawed while Darth Whoever telekenetically chokes them from a distance rather than wiping out his ISD with a couple well placed quantum torpedos.

Speaking of stupidity, do you realize Captain Kirk is responsible for the Greek god (powerful alien) Apollo's suicide? They blew up his temple where he was drawing all his power from. Kirk also got in a fistfight with Methusellah/Da Vinci/King Solomon/Alexander the Great/... over some stupid female android he met a few hours earlier who wasn't even as pretty as most Hollywood stars. Let's not bring stupidity into this- Star Trek owns that category, that's why it's so lovable. And yes, if the Galactic Empire ever invaded the ST universe, everyone in the ST universe would forget about whatever doomsday weapons they had the week before and would end up duking it out (and losing) in some crappy low-budget space battle.

nice one... Kirk may not be the smartest guy in the galaxy but he did made it through all those fights, unlike some other people i know, that got bested by teddy bears

Jesus Christ, ST almost completely lacks stupidity (aside from those goddamn contradictions in the timeline. While Star Wars wallows in it's own assortment of plotholes.

Classic warsie bullshit, you have no proof.

And lastly, that "low-budget" space battle crap is just a typical stereotype people have for Star Trek? Dude, Voyager has won fucking emmys for their effects dumbass!

So, nobody responds to me? Anyone have any counters to the tactics proposed in that post?

Trying to argue about EVERYTHING in the ST universe vs. the SW universe isn't particularly interesting, since

    1. We don't even know what's in 75%+ of the ST galaxy
    and
    2. Presumably Q could just snap his fingers and make everything disappear. (assuming he wanted to join in - it might amuse him to just sit back and watch the how)

Federation vs. Empire is more interesting, and is actually possible to argue about (if you ignore the fact that the empire is vastly bigger).

Quality > Quantity Nasor... and the current Empire is in shambles post Episode 6...

    1. We would only argue what exists in canon

    and

    2. Fine, no Q. Still.

What you are doing is purposefully limiting the ground of ST. The Empire spans 80% of a Galaxy. Since We know what's in most of the Beta Quadrant, most of Alpha Quadrant, most of Delta Quadrant and most of the Gamma Quadrant, the only "fair" thing to do would be to have everything vs. everything. If fairness doesnt matter, we get Q. If it does matter, we get everything else and you only get one specific time period, the Empire.

Empire = nothing. Remember? It's all over after Episode VI.

I haven't seen the actual episodes, but apparently there are limits even on the powers of the Q. I read something about Voyager using a weapon made by the Q to overpower them and take over their own continuum to stop some civil war they were having, and that the Q lost their ability to snap their fingers and make whatever happen outside their "continuum" after they used these weapons too much.

But yeah, the whole ST universe unfortunately is pretty stupid. It's a dream world for nerds to get inspired before they move on to better and more reasonable things/shows.

The Galaxy Far Far Away constant state of war makes additional conlict difficult.
