Have you ever tried to display them at any art shows or art galleries?

As far as human nature and its role and workings are concerned: I can't argue here against you.
I am rather skeptical about "human nature", what this concept means and what it doesn't mean.

I might be idealizing, but I have the impression that there was a time when art(ists) and the public coexisted harmoniously. Perhaps this was last around the times of cave paintings, or still might be present in some primitive cultures.

The role of art and artists in society seems to have changed over time; so did the topics art deals with. Art(ists) and society have grown distant, it seems to me, even become enemies.
But it seems that something primordial, perhaps some kind of trust, has remained in making and receiving art - yet it now seems out of place, like an artificial appendage.

Would you carry a small photo of your favorite artwork in your pocket or your bag, or paste it into your journal? Would there not be a sense of discomfort, a feeling that you have assumed too much familiarity with the artwork? That even though the artwork evokes something very important for you, it feels wrong to be so familar with the artwork?

I do feel this way about artworks. I'm not sure why exactly it happens, though.

We might be using the word "public" differently here.
The fact is that people do buy art, pay for it.

No. I had a small business selling cast concrete sculptures for the garden, but now I work for a corporation, which is a good steady income. Someday, I'll get my act together and do a real art show.

 

Find a local art dealer or art gallery and just talk with them about displaying your work. They will help you more than you think. Just remember to get a written contract as to what your going to leave with them and what types of consignment prices you want to sell them for if they want to try to sell them for you.

 

There is an ethereal quality to your work. In Sisters, you just know that the one in black is the evil one. Day trippers remind me of a fleeting memory. Flying octopi idea I will rip off for my current novel...sorry

Now that I look at it, it reminds me of the Douglas Adams idea of the dolphins fleeing Earth prior to it's destruction.

Some of these are based on old photos I found at an estate sale.

That's the smallest one, 3x4 inches, drawn on clayboard. The scan isn't too good, there's alot of fine detail you can't see. One of the ladies (the one on the left) is supposed to look insane, there are fine scratched lines radiating out from her head, like she is recieving signals from somewhere.

 

I noticed that, was wondering whether she was meant to be a ghost.
