I've been there for my cousin's wedding and I would agree that it sucks. Well, the city part anyway.

My family just moved to Utah, I can't stand it. I leave whenever I can...which is frequent.

It couldn't be worse than some redneck town near Cincy, Oh. I'll be so damn happy to leave here, I'm going to hollar, "Yee-haw!!! Let's get-r-done, mother fuckers!!!"

It obviously can't happen soon enough.

Lori, at least you have something to fight against.

Being a former 15 year resident of Las Vegas myself, I can tell you that the town sucks to grow up in. No nature. (Red Rock and Mt Charleston doesn't count - you can't get there on a bicycle when you're 12 - anyways, they're building a casino out there from what I heard.) No fun. (Movie theaters and go karts?) No life. (What art district?)

Yea. Vegas sucks...

You poor thing. I've never been to Vegas, but now that you mention it, it doesn't seem as if it would be very "kid-friendly". Unless you're a kid who likes to gamble and drink and is a big fan of Wayne Newton that is. I used to play in the woods behind my house a lot as a kid...we had trails, club-houses, creeks, swings. But we would also roller skate and skateboard...I lived on an almost verticle hill that ended in a culdesac (sp?). Me and my friends would put on variety shows and concert in our garage's too...that's kind of "vegas-y". Oh, and play Charlies Angels...I was Kelly. Ok enough, I'm starting to show my age.

Life is too short, and the world is too big, so travel often. That's what I say anyway.

I was born in Hawaii, but ended up in las vegas when I was 3. Getting raised here is horrible. There is absolutley no nature at all, unless you count dirt as nature. There are no museums or anything. There is basically nothing to do if your under 21. The heat is so intense its dangerous to go outside during the day, and during the night when it cools down a bit (like 90+ degrees still) everything is closed except strip clubs and casinos and the people are insanely rude and aggressive.

Growing up in this city has a good side to it though, you learn to really appreciate things like nature, good people, rain, snow ect.

How I long for the day when I can see an ocean again, or see real snow or rain (I actually record the rain on video to watch because it happens so rarely) or explore a forest or see a squirrel or a real lake...

I will move out of this godforsaken town the second I graduate from highschool! ONWARD TO WASHINGTON!!

I hate Danville, KY. Stupid people. Only cool part about it is that we lived across the street to a car dealership.

I love Louisville, the place I live in now, though.

I could state a religious arguement of why Vegas is like it is, afterall certain religions have certain practices and the would probably prefer you joining their religion, joining them in prayer and donating to them rather than nipping off down a skateboard park.

Heck, I'm suprised you budding Entrepreneur's haven't suddenly spotted a Vegas business development area in keeping kids occupied.

As for myself, I have no qualms about where I was born, I've managed to eat, drink, sleep and be clothed for sometime. Crime is not rediculous although it does exist.

I'm sure if I lived in some country where the shed I live in is built of scrap foraged from rubbishtips, or stolen from building yards, where my food/cothing is either stolen or given to me by charity organisations, then perhaps I would turn around and complain.

Even though, a complaint itself would never be good enough on it's own, without working with others that complain to do something about it. So if you do hate where you are, think of how you can change it.

And how would you change las vegas, Stryder? Unless your born into a super rich family and are able to rent large expensive buildings I doubt anybody would be able to change this place. If you want to try to raise money by collecting donations, good luck the people here would never donate their money to anything but casinos. Maybe once in a while you'll find someone who recently moved here and is still happy enough to give a donation, but $4 isn't going to rent a commercial building. There are no mom and pop stores here anymore, they are all replaced by big name franchises. I guess you could make this place better by nuking it and sending a bunch of dust in the air to cover the sun and at least make it a few degrees cooler, but nukes are hard to get. The only green in this city are around commercial buildings but thats fastly dissapearing because its cheaper to have rocks. All the young people have learned to just stay inside because there is nothing for them out of the house. Nobody cares anymore,we cannot do anything about it, we can only get away from it. I can find something good about any place in the world, every place except Vegas and Arizona. Las Vegas is only a good place to live if you love getting heatstroke, hate nature, and love rude people.

The Washington DC region (including the Maryland and Virginia suburbs) really sucks. We have four seasons of four completely different types of absolutely unbearable weather. It's almost always either too hot or too cold, it rains so often that you don't dare go out without rain gear most days, it snows just enough in the winter to leave slush, whenever there's a hurricane anywhere we get killer winds, and allergy season is endless. The traffic is absolutely insane in the suburbs and it's so bad in the city itself that you simply can't drive at all, we've got surface streets that are more congested than California freeways--on Saturday! The cost of living is unbelievable, people are paying $900 a month to rent moldy basements that aren't even totally finished or totally private, everything from food to haircuts costs a fortune. You can't find decent produce anywhere. The capitol is such a strong influence on local culture that even fifty miles away everybody acts like civil servants, you go into Home Depot and the staff doesn't wait on you because they're having a personal phone conversation. People have no passion and are wary of anyone who does, if you laugh too loud they think you're crazy and if you get angry and shout at them they think you're going to kill them. It does have top-notch art and entertainment--museums, concerts, theater, crafts fairs, parks--I'll give it that. Everybody stops here on their tours, without that it would be impossible to live here.

Yeah, I've lived in Vegas twice and it sucks if you're not the 24/7 party-type person. There's really nothing else to do but that or gamble your life away. And yes, the main reason why I, too, didn't like it there was the lack of nature (and mexican food joints, heh) considering I've lived in the better part of Southern California for most of my life with every type of terrain close nearby (on the coast between Santa Barbara and Malibu). Vegas is only a nice place to visit, not live, unless you wanna make quick cash in real estate since it's such a boomtown.

Heck, I'm suprised you budding Entrepreneur's haven't suddenly spotted a Vegas business development area in keeping kids occupied.
Well they do have this cool huge multi-sport park that has a golf course, race driving track, skateboard park, football field, baseball field, and tons of other stuff. However, that's far away for the type of crowd it's built for, heh. No matter where you wanna go in that town, it'll take at least 20 minutes by car, let alone the youngins who don't have one that would wanna go to that place on a regular basis.
