To some, though, Ahmadinejad is still regarded as a hero:

S.A.M.: "Wouldn't Americans be interested in an anti-US demonstration in Iran?"

Gustav:
"sorry"
"no"
"we dont do introspection"
Surely we won't burn it in so deep as our epitaph?

Tell that to those who are arrested for apostasy and who spend time in prison for "protesting" against the government.

Nobody doubts the dangers, but the inefficiencies of organizations inebriated on power has a comical aspect (especially towards the end of such a regime's life-cycle) and does provide a statistical sense of relative personal security. It's not such a good feeling of security as USAmericans have come to imagine, but it's good enough that a whole nation (on some lovely days) can freely tip their hats to a new revolution (so to speak). It also happens to be the source of my hope for the future of our species.

this from a nation which gave us Guantanamo.
Many Held at Guantanamo Not Likely Terrorists
Dozens of detainees pose no real threat, but U.S. policies make it nearly impossible to get names off lists.
Tell it to those imprisoned and waterboarded by the US goverment.

The regime that implemented those policies was soundly beaten in the last election.
