In wikipedia they write that two-part gel capsules are made in two parts by dipping metal rods in molten starch or cellulose solution.

My question is: Metal rods do not dissolve in the digestive tract, so how exactly can metal rods be used in the capsules? Also what happens after the metal rods are dipped in the solution?

Er....I assume once the cellulose solution is dried, the capsules are removed from the rods which and used to form new capsules. They're just used to form the shape, not to be permanently part of the capsule.
