    Brits Close UFO Hotline

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/34277625...science-space/

After 50 years of no results, they (at least the government) figured it was time
to stop wasting money on it. Sure sounds reasonable to me.

And the complaint in the final paragraph of that article is pure bogus - there's always the local police that can be called if there's anything to report. It really doesn't have to go directly to the military.

As fas as I'm aware the only time such reports went directly to the MoD was if they were made by military personnel anyway.

I particularly liked the oft-repeated comment
Nick Pope, who helped the British military with its UFO investigations for many years...
Which is a slight embellishment of the actual truth.
Pope's job was in a division of the Secretariat (Air Staff) and UFOs were a very minor consideration.
More along the lines of "And when you have five minutes to spare Pope, file these appropriately" as opposed to the MOD's UFO Investigator as he's so often portrayed.

Heh, the Hot Line was shut down... Pope resigned in 2005 in protest at the investigation (or any pretence of) being shut down. In other words the front end that led nowhere has been closed off. Big deal.

Edit: on the other hand, given Pope's *cough* critical faculties his resignation was no loss either.

    Heh-heh! That's amusing, thanks!

We had a UFO hotline? I never knew. I think most reports were made to the Police anyway, because I've never seen the number advertised, and it's not like people are going to ask the Operator if there is, perchance, a Govt funded UFO hotline service they should use!

Oh yeah, and on Nick Pope, .... he's just milking the conspiracy teat. He knows nothing.

Strange. A while back, the UK government released a bunch of UFO files at http://ufopressrelease.nationalarchives.gov.uk/
