The Original Moon landing tapes got erased, NASA admits Oh my, the moon landing conspiracy people are gonna go nuts when they see this piece of news. LOL Moon landing tapes got erased, NASA admits NEWS SOURCE: Reuters.com
Yes, and I am understanding that they are having a Hollywood studio clean up the "copies" that they do have from various media. It happened years ago, according to new reports, but was kept quiet.
I am certainly not a moon landing hoax believer, far from it. But reading the first paragraph I am wondering how in the F*ck they erased the original tapes of one of the most important moments in our history. Unbelievable. "WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The original recordings of the first humans landing on the moon 40 years ago were erased and re-used, but newly restored copies of the original broadcast look even better, NASA officials said on Thursday."
Looking better then the original??? They say it's reused I wonder whats on it now, perhpas some old star trek episodes Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
If the orignal tapes were erased and re-used. How did they get new copies to restore ? From the original broadcast which would have been on the original tapes. Which were erased. Huh.
NASA has an orbiter right now taking pictures of the moon. Please tell me they are going to get some shots of the landing locations and leftovers. Should be able to get foot print shots and all.
aparently they sent a back up here which we sent back on a format that wasnt used in the US so they wouldnt have wiped it. Insted they LOST themPlease Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
By whom? NASA's moon recordings have been disappearing and reappearing for a long time. Here's an older one that was lost and found: 19 September, 2001, "Lost Moon-landing tape found", BBC News http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/1552367.stm The above was not one of those tapes referenced in the original post. The tapes in question were transmitted in high def from the Moon. The signals were received and recorded in Australia. Since *nobody* had HDTV back then, the signals were retransmitted from Australia in fuzzy low def. A whole lot of people have HDTV now -- so where are those old tapes? There was no coverup. July 31, 2006, "Search Is on for Original Apollo 11 Footage", NPR http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5578853 August 5, 2006, "One giant blunder for mankind: how NASA lost moon pictures" Sydney Morning Herald http://www.smh.com.au/news/national...t-moon-pictures/2006/08/04/1154198328978.html 13 August 2006, "Tale of the TV Tapes: Apollo 11 Mission Archive Mystery Unspools", SPACE.com http://www.space.com/news/060813_apollo11_tapes.html Maybe they were found here? 1 November 2006, "Lost Moon landing tapes discovered", Cosmos Online http://www.cosmosmagazine.com/node/818 Nope. "These aren't the tapes we're looking for," said John Sarkissian, operations scientist at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization's (CSIRO) Parkes Radio Observatory in Parkes, Australia. 03 November 2006, "Apollo TV Tapes: The Search Continues", SPACE.com http://www.space.com/news/061103_apollo_tapes.html Some have been found in the intervening two-plus years. One problem: The HDTV we have now isn't anything close to the format those tapes were recorded in. Many of the tapes that were found are falling apart. Fortunately, Hollywood has learned how to deal with these problems because it too is trying to salvage bits and pieces of lost and found Hollywood history.
one simple way, with old footage, is just by increasing the contrast. also changing formats when one becomes obsolete.
Am I the only person who suspects there is a football game recorded over the moon landing, by the night and holiday maintenance crew? It's Superbowl Sunday, you're stuck at work, you know you can get the signal feed on the machine in the monitor room, there are these old dusty tapes dated back to the 60s in a box where nobody ever goes - - - -
