A spaceship to travel the galaxy! What will it need? What dangers will the crew face? What fuels will we use?

Let's roughly throw together a spaceship.

Ok, first order of business: propulsion. What's the best bet for fast and efficient propulsion? I like the nuclear propulsion and ion propulsion ideas best...but what about antimatter propulsion?

    Life support?

    Protection from radiation?

    Artificial gravity?

    Artificial habitats on board?

    Self-sustainability?

What will we need? What will we do?

Holodeck--long journeys get boring, and a journey to another star gets reeeeallly boring.

We won't need a space ship, we will need a stargate that would take us anywhere in the universe in a matter of seconds.

and on they way you see and experience

don't forget not only will you get closer to another star(s) but you will see them from a different perspective

and because of this perspective learn something new about stars and you won't know that until you examine the star three dimensionally up close

doesn't this sort of conflict with your questions in this thread ??

    http://www.sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=94063

But as for the other entities like electrons, neutrons, photons and quarks I have strong doubts if they really exist in the real world and not just on paper.

now you want to take them on the cruise ??

Plasma is not the easiest thing to contain, if it were, we would be a lot further in being energy independent , they been trying to keep that genii in the bottle for quite some time.

Lets just stick to playing spaceship video games and pretend that is as real as it is going to get for the next few thousand years, until the robots do it for us.

You would probably carry a limited amount of oxygen, and use chemical engineering to convert the CO2 back into oxygen and carbon.
