I have a friend that does it for a living. He's a photographer as well, but he supports himself mostly on poker, and it's a nice life. A $1350/month one bedroom condo, put $20k down on his car, travels almost yearly for months at a time, top-end camera gear (Canon 5D Mark II with all the lenses he would need) and has a crazy photo printer and the computers to process his images to go with it, etc.
Poker is not a game of chance, so it's not a case of the house always winning in the end.

First and formost the cassino always wins or it wouldn't be in business. Sure the players will win at times but how many times and how much? That's gambling and when one gambles one should understand the "odds". Always learn about whatever it is you are doing before you do it. Here's a quick guide to learning about the "odds" when you bet on stuff.

I do not gamble myself and avoid even visiting cassinos for they aren't my way of being "entertained, but to each his own. The big problem is being able to AFFORD to play because many times people play trying to earn a living and that is a very, very hard way to make a living.

I have never, ever , met anyone that has really made allot of money playing poker or gambling in any way in my entire life. I feel that entertainment is found in the arts to me so I spend my money going to movies, plays, books, music, and on and on. But again to each their own and I will never say that gambling isn't for you, it just isn't for me.

PartyPoker has a option to play with fake money and is a lot better than the Facebook one.

There's lots of places for this, real or fake money. I was on several different ones at one point and enjoy the satellite free-rolls or the cheap entry tournys.
I'm quite good online it seems, but not much of a gambler though so I just play for fun.
It takes a lot of practice so be patient, read some books about it, or just watch the pros String and you'll learn a hell of a lot. Online players don't usually have tells or any way to read them and they're usually wild with their stakes so you should just play the percentages of the cards you have unless you're lucky enough to meet a group of competent players.

That's the same excuse a coworker of mine used for playing the lottery.
The example I use to show the stupid nature of gambling...
Suppose there is a $98 raffle. There are 100 tickets costing $1 each.
The odds of winning are 1/100 for 1 ticket. The expected value for each play per ticket is $98*1/100 + ($-1)*99/100 = $-0.01.
Why $98? Because no sane person running any gambling operation wouldn't want their share of the winnings.
So what does this mean? For every $1 you spend on a ticket, you are, on average, losing a penny. You exchange 100 pennies for 99 pennies.
A -1% return on my money is a bad investment in my opinion.

Indeed. I used to live in Phoenix and I had friends who'd go to Vegas and various Indian Casinos weekly and blow huge sums of money.
My only exception is my family's quarterly poker "game". It's a fun diversion. But to engage in any form of gambling with the notion that there will be profit is ultimately fool-hearty and financially dangerous.
