` US Senator: AIG execs should consider suicide WASHINGTON (AFP) — A prominent US Senator has suggested that top executives of the bailed-out insurer AIG ought to quit or kill themselves, which he described as the Japanese model of honorably taking responsibility. Senator Charles Grassley, the top Republican on the Senate Finance Committee, told a radio station in his home state of Iowa that the insurance giant's shamed leaders had stoked public anger with lavish bonuses. "The first thing that would make me feel a little bit better towards them [is] if they would follow the Japanese example and come before the American people and take that deep bow and say I'm sorry and then either do one of two things: resign or go commit suicide," Grassley told WMT radio. I mean - the supposed solution to this whole financial mess is a matter of 'restoring confidence', right ? Nothing would make me feel more confident than seeing every last one of these scum-suckers - followed by all 500-odd dipshits of the DC Mental Mendicants Society - sa-shay up onto some swanky ceremonial platform dressed in some kinda penitential robes, armed with those little 'suicide swords', mumble some crapola about how stoopid they all were, then proceed to hack there own guts out. We could have US Marines in dress uniforms armed with nice shiny sabres to act as their 'seconds', lopping their no good noggins off after they did their 'last manly duty'. It would be friggin' GLORIOUS !!! Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Well, they're AIG ... they just don't get it yet They're emblematic of everything that's wrong with American capitalism in the context of this financial crisis. The executives have yet to understand fully the implications of their positions. It's almost like if you lend a friend money to cover his rent, and he goes and blows it on cocaine and hookers. Almost.
Its a nice thought but I don't really think the congressman understands the rationale behind ritual suicide.
Well... I don't think either the DC Mental Mendicants Society or the corporate goobers in question are capable of feeling shame, if that's what you mean. I'll take getting rid of 'em any way I can get it, though. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Check this out - The Plot Thickens: Obama Officials Sought To Keep AIG Bonuses: Dodd In a stunning development, Sen. Christopher Dodd said that Obama administration officials asked him to add language to last month's federal stimulus bill to make sure the controversial AIG bonuses remained in place. Dodd, chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, told CNN that Obama officials wanted the language added to an amendment limiting bonuses that could be paid by companies receiving federal bailout money. He said they were afraid that without it, the government would face numerous lawsuits from employees who were promised bonuses. Amid AIG Furor, Dodd Tries to Undo Bonus Protections in the 'Dodd Amendment' Rules While the Senate was constructing the $787 billion stimulus last month, Dodd added an executive-compensation restriction to the bill. The provision, now called “the Dodd Amendment” by the Obama Administration provides an “exception for contractually obligated bonuses agreed on before Feb. 11, 2009” -- which exempts the very AIG bonuses Dodd and others are now seeking to tax. Dodd’s original amendment did not include that exemption, and the Connecticut Senator denied inserting the provision. “I can't point a finger at someone who was responsible for putting those dates in,” Dodd told FOX. “I can tell you this much, when my language left the senate, it did not include it. When it came back, it did.” “Because of negotiations with the Treasury Department and the bill Conferees, several modifications were made,” Dodd Spokesperson Kate Szostak in a response to FOX Business. The provision excluding those bonus payments made it into the final version of the bill, and is law. and, of course - this couldn't have had the slightest thing to do with it whatever... Separately, Sen. Dodd was AIG’s largest single recipient of campaign donations during the 2008 election cycle with $103,100, according to opensecrets.org. Also, one of AIG Financial Products’ largest offices is based in Connecticut. Now on CNN, Anderson Cooper's show has just shown a clip of Sen. Dodd admitting that he himself was responsible for changing the wording in the bill. Suit up, Doddy, old fruit... Time to "take a bow". :mufc:
Well, wait a minute. Guess who was the #2 recipient of money from AIG coming in at $101,000 right behind Mr. Dodd was good old Barack H. Obama! http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/story?id=7110145&page=1
Ahh, isn't "change" a wonderful thing? ...LOL! Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Wonder what else Obama has in mind as "change"??? Baron Max
It's more like you gave your coke addict friend who was known to blow money on hookers and cocaine, and in fact, had spent the last decade doing so, money to cover rent. Suits are total fucks. Of course they're going to take your money and run; that's how capitalism works. I don't know how anyone could think giving money to people whose entire life's work has been dedication to selfish principles was a good idea. Bail outs? For corporate sharks? Come on now.
i honestly dont know why the goverment didnt just BUY the companies after they went into liquidation. That way they could have been resurected for the employees but the stupid fucks up the top wouldnt have got a cent
how is it fascism? i would have assumed you would call it communisim or socialisium (ohhhh dirty wordsPlease Register or Log in to view the hidden image!) for the goverment to be owning "private" companies. Of course its not because when the companies become viable in there own right the goverment can then sell them again. Im sorry for the share holders but im NOT sorry AT ALL for the company exec's who started this and im ESPECIALLY not sorry about stopping goverment money from being used to pay there performance bonuses when its bloody ovious to everyone except YOU that if a company is in that desprate need of goverment money its because they HAVENT performed
Or just let them go bankrupt. That's not fascism. It's socialism. Or maybe not even that: Just a bad idea. ~String
no string, i dont agree with letting employees go bankrupt because of what there bosses do. I dont agree with employees losing reduncancy, long service leave, anual leave, super entitlments because the people in charge are greedy fucks. I also do belive that the goverment has a roll in keeping as close to full employment as possable and i dont have a problem with goverments buying buinesses in order to keep this objective AND to make a profit when they are sold.
