It seems like us sinful humans are correcting some deficiencies in our DNA.

    thanks david, very interesting article.
I thought you meant they messed with the child and changed its DNA. All they did was select an embryo without the inherited gene.
as my Mom always says "god works in mysterious ways" I hope they can do this for Huntingtons

(If it is) Eugenics, when used for eliminating disease, Isn't that bad.

Lets hope no one tries to change the colour of their baby next.

but they didn't change anything. They just implanted the embryo that didn't have the cancer gene.
and do you think its eugenics to not implant an embryo? I think that happens A LOT in the field of IVF

    Orleander:

Apologies if my wording was confusing.

To help existing conditions, as everyone suffers from something or another, would be too much of a moral dilemma at this point in time.

Imagine how much would be lost to the pharmaceutical industry?

    More unemployment.

In IVF they take a normal sperm and injet it into an egg. They do not do any genetic modifications to the sperm or the egg....as yet.

and they are not genetically altering anything in this case either. (did you read the story??) They just made sure the embryo didn't carry the cancer gene that had "blighted" the females in the family.
