why do cats sleep on the top of their head? Is it a safe version of sleeping on their back?

Maybe it's so they don't squash their ears.

Yea, cats hate when anything obstructs the hairs on their ears.

Most cats I've seen or had never slept on the top of their heads usually. They slept like these examples do.

I have seen them sleep in all sorts of positions, but I have a theory. Cats generally sleep in a nest, a shallow circular depression. In this cavity, their exhaled breath will be trapped, and so they move their heads to the top to get fresh, oxygen filled air.

tis was a joke. Actually I have seen cats sleep in all ways imaginable, not just top of their heads.

My dogs do a similar thing, but like the cats, it seems only when they're laying on their sides... maybe? I dunno, not something I really pay attention to. All I know is a thing in my head activates when they sleep like that and I have to scratch their chin.

    oooo... kitties!
