I want my computer to read text files / pdf files to me. Sometimes I have long things that I need to read...and I just don't want to print them out. The computer screen hurts to look at for too long...

Does anyone know any software that reads texts files to you?

    I use Adobe Acrobat Reader.

If you go to View >Read Out Loud, it will read the document to you.

Hmm you probably have "Agnes" who is the default voice.

In Mac OS X, you can click on Adobe Reader > Preferences > Reading to get this screen:

Then remove the check mark from "use default voice" to select your options.

Nah I'm one of those odd people who read the operating manuals.

Also, if I think of something, I assume so did others, its not hard to do a search in Google/Finder and locate practically anything .

You can also press "windows+u" and get a magnifier and onscreen keyboard too.

If someone wants a text to speech program for linux, there is 'festival'. Works well, although the voices I have used sound quite robotic.
