Blood Blister

I smashed my pinkie finger and have a blood blister now. How is a blood blister different than a regular blister? Why does a regular blister fill up with clear stuff, while this is filled with blood? Will the skin come off with a regular blister?

The regular stuff is serum from the blood, I think.

I hate those. If I get one I always have to sterilize a needle and rupture it.

Blood blister busts through all layers of the skin, the "regular" blister does not.

Do not rupture any type of blister. Use a needle to make a tunnel from good skin outside the blister into the blister. Then use a little pressure to force the fluid through that tunnel.

Is it safe to pop it or will my body absourb it the same way it does a regular one? Will a scab form inside the blister?

 

why? I've never popped a blister. My body just seems to abourb the fluid

 

That's what I meant when I said I use a needle to rupture it.

 

I would pop it with an acupuncture needle.

The clear stuff is blood plasma...90% water.

 

punchering a blister is stupid, the reason the body makes them is to protect the vulnerable layers of epithelial tissue (and connective tissue) below the dead skin, the fluid is lymph i belive and is full of macrophages which eat bacteria and there by protect the wound from infection. if you pop it or drain it you lose that protection and a) it exposes the nerves to the air and causes pain and b) it alows bacteria entry to the sterile enviroment which is inside your body

 

If you get one inside your mouth is it safe to puncture it? Because I've sometimes accidentally bit my mouth lining and got a blood blister.

I still don't understand why a person would pop it. For what purpose??

 

Just leave it alone or apply a cold pack.

I just cut open regular blisters, and I would probably do the same if I got a blood blister.

Shit. I didn't know what. Whenever I get one of them in my mouth I sterilize a needle and open it up.
