Mark May 14, 2008 on your calendars because it is a day that will live in infamy. It was the day that the Bush Administration and the Interior Department handed the Sierra Club and other extreme environmentalists the ultimate weapon. They are now in possession of a weapon that will rain fire on the US economy more devastating than any WMD ever devised by man.

This statement by Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne has to be the most naive, misguided statement ever uttered by a government official. He says his decision would not "open the door for activists to force the adoption of limits on greenhouse gas emissions linked to global warming"? He has to be absolutely brain dead if he thinks his action today isn't going to be used by activists to ram through everything their heart's desires. He has effectively given them, and activist judges, God like powers to regulate every single aspect of human behavior. What he has done is tied a "threatened" species to global warming, and has said that global warming is a direct threat to the Polar Bear. What this means is that anything that is even thought to contribute to global warming will be a violation of the Endangered Species Act.

This has the potential of stopping all economic activity in its bear tracks. Dirk Kempthorne also said

Oh sir, this is second most naive statement ever uttered by a government official. This decision not only can shut down every carbon emitting factory but it has killed any possibility of drilling in ANWAR and has the potential to stop oil drilling or even oil refining anywhere in the United States or its territories. Don't just stop at oil, he has declared global warming a threat to an endangered species which means All human activity that is thought to contribute to global warming is now a violation of the Endangered Species Act. The very act of starting your car could be ruled a violation.

This is a big day for environmentalist because they have been given the ultimate weapon. Starting today it doesn't matter if global warming is real or a hoax, that argument is completely irrelevant now because extreme environmentalists will move forward boldly in the courts and will only be limited by their own imaginations. The Sierra Club can now hold aloft a huge banner saying "Mission Accomplished" Because the Bush administration has granted them absolute power.

People are not going to stop their economies over polar bears! It does not matter if global warming is real or not, peak oil is real and it going to stop/change our economy whether we want it to or not. So this whole worry that environmentalist are going to ruin the economy is a moot point, the economy is going to ruin its self.

Damn the polar bears, full speed ahead!

Seriously, I thought only environmentalists were capable of such fearmongering. I only hope you are right, it would be great for the economy. At present, we are heading towards disaster, our petroleum based economy has no future.

You're saying that this puppet of the oil industry whose daddy bought his way into the White House has done something that is going to go against the interests of U.S. business? Be serious!
No, but I think your opening statement is hopelessly naive. Have you been paying attention to the way our government has been running for the past forty years, since it became a bastion of socialist authoritarianism? Or are you another one of these precocious 25-year-old foreigners writing from Kiev or Damascus about a country you think you understand because you watch our TV shows? It does exactly whatever the hell it wants. The President decides what we're going to do, Congress passes laws to make it happen, and the Supreme Court rubber stamps it. Affirmative Discrimination, the War on Drugs, the slaughter of the Branch Davidians, the punishment of Iraq and Afghanistan for the terrorist attack launched by Saudis... the list is endless.
America's judiciary has already abandoned its constitutional responsibility and become activist. Again, you must be watching us from your hilltop home in Bangkok or Rotterterdam to not have noticed this. That genie has been out of the bottle for at least 25 years. There is no more "separation of powers" as defined in the Constitution. The government is a single branch, halfway down the path to fascism. They've already effectively nationalized the education, charity, energy, finance, transportation and health care sectors, and as soon as they wrap up communications America as we know it will be gone. It would be really nice if concerned citizens could petition the government and get some action, but all we get are higher taxes and more intrusive laws regulating private behavior.
Well duh. Polar bears rely on ice floes as feeding platforms. Ice floes are becoming less numerous due to global warming. Therefore polar bears have a shorter feeding season and less fat to sustain them through a longer hibernation. What part of that is so hard to understand?
Well good goddess, isn't it about time something like this finally lit a fire under the butts of the selfish morons who run this stinking excuse for a government and their puppeteers in industry? Are we supposed to ignore the impending extinction of species that don't play a major role in the ecosystem we call a "food chain" and wait for one of our vital food species to be threatened before we finally stop burning up a hundred million years' deposits of fossil fuel in the next 150 years? We're not supposed to see the polar bear as the canary in that coal mine? Are we supposed to be the ignorant "consumers" that American business depends on us to be?
Oh geeze dude, give us a break! If I pull up your IP address and find out that you're a PR agent for Exxon-Mobil, I won't be the least bit surprised.
Well it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out which human activities contribute to global warming, so by inserting the phrase "thought to contribute" you've made your writing sound even more like it came from the press office of Standard Oil or General Motors.
No. The ultimate weapon would be something that would have an impact on China and India. It hardly matters what we do, since they are hell-bent on repeating all the mistakes we made on our way to prosperity. Once they put a billion more fossil fuel-burning automobiles on this planet, the subject will be moot. Then we might as well all start partying like it's 1999BCE, because it soon will be.

Ok, we are both divorced after 12 years of our marriage. She incurred over 40,000 in debt from student loans. When we divorce is it legal for her lawyer to make me pay half her student loans which are only in her name. The loans were taken out while we were married. And if so can I make her pay half of my loans and other bills that are just in my name but have ruined my credit and they also were incurred during the marriage? Please suggest me what should I do now? Thanks a lot.
