    Victims: 'America's Worst Cardinals'
A list of America's five "worst" cardinals that a watchdogs group says have allegedly protected priests accused of sexual abuse was unveiled while the pope meets with American cardinals in Washington.

"The secrecy, recklessness and deceit of these powerful cardinals have left thousands of children at risk for abuse," said Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests (SNAP) national director David Clohessy. Clohessy' group, made up of alleged victims of sexual abuse by Catholic clergy, compiled the list of supposed "worst" cardinals: Cardinals Francis George, Daniel DiNardo, Sean O'Malley, Roger Mahony and Edward Egan.

And like in any organization, when you discover your bad apples are raping neighborhood children you call the cops.

And if instead you hide them from the police and set them up with their next victims, somebody else calls the cops on you.

    Right ?

So if your son or daughter was raped at 12 years old and the priest was let off because you didn't press charges because you recieved a million dollars to not do so, wouldn't you then be the "bad apple" as you put it?

These cardinals were given money from the Vatican to dole out to the families to keep the priests from going to jail then took the priests and put them into another location so that those priests can now rape other children once again. If you know that this happened within your church wouldn't you want to rid yourself of the infestation of those who did wrong , not let them off the hook and go about doing all over again? Your flippant attitude toward a very wrong thing which was done and covered up only shows that you are connected somehow to those who are in the Vatican or closely related to them.

If these priests were just common men they would be behind jail doors right now but because of these cardinals they are free. Why should we even have a legal system when one class of people with money can walk free while those without money must go to jail? This is unjust for the victims as well as society in general and sends a message to all those who think that justice is fair. All of these men should be serving time in prison but alas they aren't but thousands of child molesters are because at least some in our society know how to act and let justice be served not just swept under a rug to be found latter when another innocent child is raped once again.

All organizations have bad apples. Not all organizations hide them from the law, enable their criminal activities, and attract victims for them.

Good organizations turn child rapists over to the police and the courts.

depends how bad the apple (or orange or black sapote) is

and what identity does an organization have outside of the individual(s) who manage(s) it?

Well i think in every case that the police already knew. If you look at the first image it says WHILE under investigation. But this shit is widespread and there busting people every day from every corner of the earth. To be honest i wouldnt trust my children with...ah, forget it.

Everybody - the victims, the cardinals, the perps, the police - says that the police were not informed in the large majority of the cases.

The perps were moved, the victims denied or paid or threatened, the families (if they knew) paid or threatened for silence, and the people in the new situations not warned, nor their children protected.

Deliberately, as a matter of policy. With financing from the Church.

Read the captions next to the names. It says the police were investigating the cases, the other one says he kept quiet for a month etc. so just be honest for once. The laws suck too and criminal scum bags who molest children dont get the sentences they deserve. I also think the statute of limitations applies.

And didnt you know that you cannot have knowledge of a crime and not report it without legal repercussions?

But the whole situation is no worse percentage wise than what we see in society at large. Wikipedia even gives the percentages but i am not looking for the page.

The officials of the Catholic Church failed to report most of these crimes, and suffered no legal repercussions.
That is not quite true, if you correct for the family and relative abuse that dominates the statistics of the society at large - Catholic priests and nuns do not abuse within their families.

In the society at large we also do not see organized institutional coverup and enabling, which is the whole point of the thread subject.

However you spin it the statistics speak for themselves. Sorry to say.

If you feel it was a cover up then contact the FBI.

Statistics do not speak for themselves.

The priest and nun abuse has been stranger abuse - someone from outside the family. That's the rarest kind, in the society at large.

And the Church both hid the crimes and enabled them - the five Cardinals named in the OP are not accused of molesting themselves, but of concealing and enabling known abusive priests, and doing so in their official capacity while in communication with the central authorities of the Church.

Bill Maher is simply correct when he observes that anyone who had run a chain of day care centers like that would be in jail now.

I dont know what to tell you. Read the captions next to the names, you keep adding enabling on your own because i think this excites you. If you have information of this and can build a case then you MUST go to the FBI.

My contention is that children are sexually abused every day by all kinds of people and it is disgusting. Same for Bill Maher, because he is saying that he knows of a cover up and has evidence which needs to be turned over to the FBI.

And many of those molesters are put into jail so they won't be able to molest other children unlike what the Catholic Church has done.
