01-27-08, 02:27 PM #21This recession is largely due to the subprime mortgage crisis. And that's being addressed as we speak. This recession will soon be over. Believe me.=S.A.M.;1728790]1. What taxes, the economy is in recession. Tax breaks are in the offing, remember?
You heard what he said.2. No permanent bases OR troops to protect embassy and diplomats?

If you can't tell people what he's done, how do you expect to convince anyone to take your support of him seriously?

01-27-08, 02:58 PM #26It worked in 2001 after the 911 attacks.=S.A.M.;1728823]It is? how? By slashing interest rates and flooding the market with liquidity?

He never said permenant troops. The troops will be guarding the embassy, and dimplomats only. The troops will carry out strategic attacks when needed. Not endless policing of Iraqi neiborhoods, or clusterbombing civilian areas like we're doing now. He's our best choice hands down.Yeah, he said no permanent bases, only permanent troops. I guess they'll be sleeping in tents.

To say Obama is all talk is to say that you don't think he will follow through with what he proposes, I assume?
That's what the words mean to me, but I don't see how any one could think that he wouldn't follow through. Even on his most vague, general slogan about bringing "change", it is obvious he will bring about drastic change. Of course there is a question of how effective he will be in his proposals.
Or could it be that you are listening to media sound bytes? The media has been picking up on issues of character, and side-issues like race, and generalities for everyone. It isn't because the candidates are lacking in plans. One reason is that most people think the democrats have virtually the same positions on policy, which is somewhat true. Another reason is the media likes to talk about fluff. He uses a lot of words, but there is nothing really there.
As for the spending, the economy and recession, first of all, he is not a miracle worker. I don't know what you can expect. There is no quick fix. Though there are ways to make substantial improvements. The majority of the deficit came from tax cuts to the rich. Taxes will be raised for the rich under Obama. For spending, I'm sure you've heard all the things the money for Iraq could of otherwise paid for.
Reversing Bush policies such as the Iraq war will be a huge improvement all by themselves. Though true of all three democratic contenders, I expect government policy on science to go back to the direction it was in pre-Bush (I have seen things that make this true of Obama and Edwards, not sure about Hillary, but obviously she would know best what direction we were in pre-Bush). I would expect that to be positive for the economy.
Beyond going in the opposite direction of Bush and going towards scientific development, I don't really know much about his economic plans. On a few occasions I've heard him address things such as Detroit's ailing auto industry, and he does not pander. Like with most things, I thought he displayed good, realistic, analytical ability. Like with most things... Obama is future oriented, has modern ideas, and not stuck in the past. I consider that vital for global competition.
I don't know what exactly you are looking for in economic plans. I believe all democratic candidates have given their opinions on trade/trade agreements, the economy in general, taxes, spending, what areas they would invest in...

Oh yeah, one more thing.
The strength of the candidates is all relative. For Obama critics, how is some other candidate better?

How many times have Presidents actually done all the things they promised to do during their election campaigns? I think you're voting more for a candidate's principles and their ability to make sound decisions than what they say their plans are before they've even set foot in the oval office. Things rarely go according to plan.

Even I like Obama, and will vote for him in November. How much more of a uniter could he be, to attract both Ganymede and Lord Hillyer?

As for Sandy liking Mitt Romney - Good God, are you joking? He makes John Edwards look sincere by comparison.
