Do theists have a brighter outlook on life?

    Does atheism breed cynicism?

    Take the quiz(zes)

    1. The Official Cynic's Self-Test

    My results:
You have potential. While you're not yet a full-blown cynic, you exhibit promising talents in that direction. (ack! probably hanging around too much with atheists!)

    2. The BBC quiz

    My results:

You're only a second rate cynic, actually you're not cynical at all just world weary and sometimes you have a point. One thing though- laughing at children isn't nice.

    3. Another test:

    (no need to enter screenname)

Your mind is pretty open yet. This isn't a bad thing, but you may need to question things a little more. Just because someone is your friend doesn't mean they're always telling you the truth. I know it's hard to hear, but sometimes you have to press people to get them to be up front with you.

How's this for cynicism? I got to the second question (Brazilian footballer) and quit. Maybe British people are so easily classified, but I, personally, cannot produce an accurate result on that kind of quiz.

It says I'm a top-grade cynic. I also didn't know about their UK celebrity references. Who the hell is beckham?

    The Official Cynic's Self-Test:

You're in the right place. Welcome, fellow cynic!

    From the 3rd test:

Your Score: Quasi-Cynic Fine, take your 33 points and get outta here!
You're getting there. Keep on questioning everything. Eventually, you'll find the truth in anything if you dig and dig until people are so fed up they'll tell you the truth just to shut you up. It's a hard road, but in the end, very satisfying.

Exactly what I got on the first quiz.

    The second quiz:
    :roflmao:
I bet Buffalo and Baron would get the same results.

And the third quiz I got a Quasi-cynic.

Are you an atheist? I would have figured you for an agnostic.

    Took the last test:

    Your Score: Mini-Cynic
Fine, take your 29 points and get outta here!

It is my view that cynicism overlaps considerably with realism.

And you define realism as a construct that considers people devoid of sincerity, virtue and humanity?

Realism is the extrapolation of future events based on past performance. I will never take the statements of GWB at face value with an innocent naivety, for instance. I know people's self-interest most often wins over idealism and principles. I know car dealerships are out to make as much money from you as they can...

    SAM,

Yes in the same way that someone drunk is happier than sober.

    Apparently I'm not a cynic.

I guess I find cynicsm to be about the worst atribute another person can display.
