Here's a site that tracks a car in real time, showing exactly where the car is located at all times. That's better than 5 feet!

You know.. i would like a way to track down my ex.. we were together for 2 years, she was pregnet with my child, and one day out of the blue, she left.. while i was at work she took all her things out of my place and left, her friend told me she moved to iwoa to live with some guy she met online, but not before she had an abortion. She still uses her self phone, but she won;t talk to me, i don;t know why.. she just left.. the last thing she told me was "ilove you have a good day at work" and that was 4 mouths ago.. i am not a stalker.. but.. i want her to look in my eye's and see the pain she has done to me.. i hadn;t slept in a lone time.. and i still don't sleep well..... if i did find her i wouldn;t hurt her, just would call her name and look into her eye's..

If this was a real story, then you should consider forgetting about her. Allowing yourself to be bitter and likely thinking of revenge in some way to her would be the wrong way of handling it. Forget her, She obviously wasn't worth your time or effort. If she left then she obviously had reasons, perhaps you drink, perhaps you do drugs, perhaps you have violent tendancies... If that's the case then there might be more of an issue with you, than you might think.

So sort it out, work out where you F'd up, then perhaps you can try to lead a normal life and leave snooping/stalking and the other crap to real wacko's (unless of course you just happen to be a wacko.)

Welcome to the place, Kirr. Pleased to meet you.

...Why would you want to track someone's cell phone?....
While I was driving down the highway a few years back, I got behind a "road hog" who refused to "let" me pass his slow arse. He was in the inside lane of the 2 lane highway. He got a cell phone call while he was passing a junk pickup truck doing 45 mph in a 70 mph zone and slowed down to 45 mph himself when he answered the phone. 13 other vehicles stacked up behind me to pass him as well. When he finally slowed below 45 mph, all of the other cars passed him. As I started to pass him, he ended his call and returned his attention to traffic. He appeared to be very angry that the other vehicles had passed him, began swerving back and forth to block me from doing so, then began throwing garbage from his truck back at me. When the moment came, I put the pedal to the metal and got around him, despite his swerving to prevent that. After I passed him, I saw him waving his cell phone at me in the rear view mirror. In about 5 minutes, a sheriffs car roared up behind me and pulled me over. The road hog honked his horn at me as he went by. The sheriffs approached our car with their hands on their guns. When the cop got to my window, he told me that they had recieved a report that there was a "car full of n******s smoking crack and waving automatic weapons at other drivers in a threatening manner". The caller gave the sheriffs my tag number and a description of my car.

Since there was only myself, my wife, our child and our dog in the car, I asked the cop how he figured we were that vehicle. His response was to claim that I hadn't had my seat belt on. I told him he was in error. He then said that I was speeding. I informed him that I was not and that he knew that full well as h e had come up behind me before pulling me over and had certainly checked my speed before doing so. I further informed him that he had been suckered into making an errant traffic stop by a road hog and related my side of the events. I suggested that making a false police report in order to use law enforcement personnel to unlawfully harass another driver was illegal and perhaps the public would be better served by his finding the road hog and busting his lying arse. He told me that they couldn't because he had called in the (false) report on his cell phone.

If the police had had the ability to trace that call, they could have busted the criminal for making that false police report. I filed a formal complaint with the department but nothing ever came of it. That would be a good reason for the government to be able to trace your cell phone call. Another would be if you had an accident out in the bush so emergency personnel could find you to assist.

They can. It's called the E911 service. All new cellphones support it.

Laws have changed since the initial thread started, most mobile phones now have inbuilt GPS Idents, failing GPS tracking there is of course a alternative system in the UK that doesn't rely upon satellites to pinpoint by BAE Systems.

This is good IMHO. LEO could sure use such a thing to track down the idiots who have been calling in bogus bomb threats. We have had several of those in this area and they have shut down the US/Canada border for hours at a go, snarling traffic and disrupting international trade as well as frightening thousands of people. The crook in Indiana is at least using the same phone for all of his threats, got the po very upset - with good reason.

I'm feeling lazy and haven't read all the posts in reply to this so forgive me if this has already been mentioned. But if the phone is android you can get an app called lookout that has a feature on it that will track the location of your phone withing 100 feet if it is lost or stolen. I have used it and tested it. It works well as long as your phone is not in a refrigerator. We hid my daughter's phone in the fridge and it said her phone was five blocks away at a park.

Why? To cause her pain? Would that make you feel better?

Let her go and move on with your life.

if i did find her i wouldn;t hurt her, just would call her name and look into her eye's..
That _is_ creepy stalker behavior. Let her go.

Steady on billvon, I called avner a creep three years ago, and JamesR gave me a warning for it last week. Yeah, he's such a sharp tool he didn't notice it was three years ago, and when challenged bullshitted me a lot, instead of admitting it was a mistake and reversing it. So be careful, in case he also gives you a warning for calling a hit and run troll making creepy posts a creep.

Sorry, to be clear, I don't think he's a stalker. (To be honest I know nothing about him.) But what he describes is creepy stalker behavior. Although as promo pointed out that post was a long time ago so presumably the issue has been resolved one way or another.

Didn't stop James issuing me with a warning, three years after I called the guy a creep though.

If the phone APPEARS to be off (i.e. the screen is dark or it says "phone off") then yes, it can still be tracked.

If the phone is ACTUALLY off (i.e. no power to the PMIC) then it cannot be tracked.
