Did the ancient Jews place any importance on birthdays - and did they celebrate them?

According to history the two replies are correct.
The Jews veiwed birth days as a form of Idol worship.

"The notion of a birthday festival was far from the ideas of the Christians of this period in General."- The History of the Christian Religion and Church, During the Three First Centuries (New york, 1848)

"The later Hebews looked on the celebration of birthdays as a part of idolatrous worship, a view which would be abundantly confirmed by what they saw of the common observances associated with these days." - The Imperial Bible-Dictionary (London, 1874)

Which is also refering to the two refrences of birthday celebration which was both pagan observances, Pharaoh and Herod. In both cases a person died. There is no reference to any Hebrew or Christian observing a birthday in the bible.
