The Senate has approved $70 Billion More for the War. Yay. Hopefully this will finish the job. The violence is down. We are making progress. :bravo:

Senate democrats failed to win the votes to force the removal of troops. Cut and run would eradicate all the progress we've made over the past year. Even the libs know this.

The House will pass this bill. They want the terrorists defeated and the war over. We all do.

    Well...

Either that or most people realize that if a withdrawal of troops would likely mean at least a short term increase in violence, which few are probaby willing to risk in a big election year.

Finish the job with $70 billion? Are you really that deluded or just full of BS?

My problem with withdrawal is that it might mean long term violence. The issue isn't "terrorists" (certainly at least if you define terrorists to mean those whose long-term objective is to destroy or significantly hurt the United States). There are terrorists in Iraq, but not that many, the main problem is from run-of-the-mill insurgents and militias, who are fighting people they want power in their own country (and often see the U.S. as an obstacle in that).

It we withdraw and leave it to the militias and other groups to fight it out, the resulting chaos might last a long time. If it were short-term, I'd be completely in favor of pulling out. A longer term fight has a greater chance of drawing in neighbors like Iran and Saudi Arabia (and keeping them involved), opening up Turkey to constant attack by the Kurds and otherwise destabilizing the region futher.

We need oil too badly to suffer through that, as too much of the world supply of oil comes from Iraq and its neighbors.
