look one more time and tell me if your inference can logically deduced and retained in current form. if ni see the referenced statement. i also see a disclaimerot, present modification

    thanks

There you go again. I think you are asking whether I made a mistake. I did, so you have my apology. But look at the way you put your question.

    [QUOTE=greenberg;1657131]

I have never felt safe in this world. And now with the economic and ecological crisis getting worse and worse my fear is hardly unjustified.

Who was it who said that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself ?

You have never felt safe " in this world". Do you expect to feel safe in some putative other world ?

If I distort I am not deliberately doing so. I shall try harder to get things right and would like to think that you will try to use language as clearly as you have done in posting your comment.

'by my silence'? (Were people making racists jokes or something? Point them out I will confront them!)

I hate to tell you this Myles, but we are not all standing around in a room listening to a formal debate we have assigned roles in.

I checked in on a thread after not participating for a while and found what seemed like one of your usual offensive condescending statements - quoted in a post of Wes' - this time starting with the obnoxious opening 'these people'... Instead of assuming that I understood this statement, which it turns out I did, I sought clarification, which took a rather a long time to get, I might add. In fact you don't quite come out and say it still. I can only hope that this is an indication that unconsciously you are somewhat embarrassed yourself. You can call this last thought a leap of faith on my part and not one I am very invested in.

    As far as
Can you conceive of something that doesn't exist having a choice as to whether to exist or not ?
Should I actually answer this question, Myles? Is there a logical reason to put an answer in front of someone who is habitually condescending?

Ah, well. I am leaving sciforums anyway and so will not have to read your condescension.

That idea sounds incredibly strange to me.

I absolutely understand your being critical of it. (critical: as in presenting counter-arguements, asking questions, etc. Not as in: condescension, dismissing individuals or whole groups at once, assuming to explore certain things is an affront somehow, etc.)

On the other hand every cosmological explanation I have heard sounds incredibly strange to me. Including every single one I have read described by physicists. I feel it is presumptuous, at least for me, to assume I can rate those strangenesses on some scale of likelihood. What the heck, I say, explore it.

I try to reserve my condescension for those who I think actually are trying to hurt people with their ideas.

    'by my silence' indeed.

(there are also assumptions you make repeatedly about how people's posts relate to their beliefs and what people are doing when they post a certain idea at a certain time - but as you regularly say: life is too short. I hope you will catch on to these assumptions yourself.)

    the problem
gustav with the way you write although amusing and quirky
seems to me so easily misread or not
on account of your style. if some do, dullards or otherwise,
the fault may be your own. if not, why not

Well, that's one way of doing it. You. of course, will be the judge of whether I am lacking.

If you read some of my earlier posts I believe you will find that I pointed that it was nonsensical to argue that something that does not exist can chose to exist. Equally silly is the notion that it chose to exist so that we could come into existence. I then pointed out the circularity of claiming that the universe exists so that we may exist, but that the universe only exists because we can observe it. I seem to remember mentioning that " god, the scientist and his heaven" appeared on the scene without a shred of evidence to support such a claim.

So, evaluate, contrast, falsify what I have said but stop talking at me like an angry teacher.

I think you should answer the question if only to show me the error of my ways. You must surely have an opinion on whether something which does not exist can choose to come into existence. I think it's nonsense. What do you think ?

You must surely have some opinions in the matter and it is in no way presumptuous to venture an opinion. That is all anyone is doing on here. I am not aware of any certainties concerning the universe, our place in it, the meaning of existence and so on. All I would ask is that opinions are supported by some form of reasoning; otherwiswe anything goes. If you don't join the debate, you can hardly be said to be exploring.

i could always turn on an extra brain cell and ponder about your existence.
you might then find suicide to be an entirely viable option.

This post has drifted away from logic. There are three sides presented by intelligent people here:

    1. Those who understand the arguements, and accept them

    2. Those who simply don't, because of personal logic

    and

    3. By those who are purely ignorant.

Sorry Gus, i need to implore the mod to lock this thread now.

    logic?
if it were present here, some would have more

will be also long after they've gone
    doubtless me also

One word of caution. If you decide to turn on another brain cell make sure it's connected to your neural network. You may have more success that way.

Knotted perhaps... But you are about as blind to science, as a bat is to daylight.

I've also realized, the last day or two, that you were the one who stole Ben's identity, and mocked me in your nasty attitude, making me and ben have a few crossed wires... the irony of this, is that you speak of ''knots,''? You cause them as much as you like to speculate them.

You are a very sad individual.
