Dune actually has the "perfect" cloak. Entering into null space due to a no-field... this makes the perfect cloak because they aren't even there! In addition, it can select what is allowed to enter the field... this is given in Chapterhouse when Odrade comments on being able to see the ship when it was on standby yet it was undetectable to prescience and sensors. This follows that it can also select what can leave the field... therefore they can fire while having the no-field active...

This mixed with instantaneous travel means that a no-ship can have the drop on anything. Shaped charge atomics can be devastating when the enemy doesn't have their shields up.

Force users wouldn't be able to sense a ship there as it would be protected from prescient activity.

The only hitch could be ST's transphasic torpedoes. When they phase out, where do they go? Could they be rigged to enter null-space? The problem is that neither ST nor SW has shown the ability to sense null-space. (voyager accidentally entered a region once that is similar, if i recall correctly.)

Same idea behind the Star Trek Phase Cloak - they are in between dimensions/universes/realities/whateveryouwanttocallthem. In the end, they're not affected by things in realspace, nor are they detectable via EM, Visible, Gravimetric, Magnometric, or any other known sensor system.

Actually, Trek does have a lot of realistic science... hell, even their propulsion system is theoretically possible (Albecurie Drive for one)... PHASERs originally stood for PHoton mASER, since when ST was first conceived, Lasers were rather low power and not well known. However, they changed it to the backronym PHASed Energy Rectification after the third season of TOS. Photon Masers are quite common...

Mass Lightening Field = Possible
EM Force Shields = Real
Gravimetric/Magnometric sensors = Real
Transporters = Possible
Cloaking Devices = Possible

Crystalline Life Form = Real (silicone life form IRL)

In fact, the few things from Trek that are NOT possible:
Dilithium Crystals - don't exist (as far as we know)
Subspace Coms/Sensors - don't exist (with current tech)


However, look at SW:
Hyperspace - Impossible
Hypermatter - Impossible
SuperLasers - Impossible
Neutronium - Doesn't Exist
The Force - Do I need to say it?
Ion Drives (they way they are depicted in SW) - Impossible
Ray/particle Shields - Impractical

and the list goes on... in fact, the few things in SW that are possible include Protocol Droids, AI, and the government systems... lol... not very promising.
