    Depends on the book.

Personally, I vote we leave the entire debate at this:

Star Wars is the superior action ride, while Star Trek is the superior science ride.
    I'm all for it!

You do realise that won't end the war....

    LOL @ Omega

yes Kittamaru has it relatively correct. ST balances character dev' with action with humor etc.
Where as SW is completely action packed, hence the title

And that's why I watch both. If I want logic and puzzles, I watch Star Trek. If I want an fun and action packed, I watch Star Wars.

But, this war will go on for many more millenia to come.

oh,please,Lucas never said that the books aren't canon,he only said they are subordinate to movie canon.
"When it comes to absolute canon, the real story of Star Wars, you must turn to the films themselves—and only the films. Even novelizations are interpretations of the film, and while they are largely true to George Lucas' vision (he works quite closely with the novel authors), the method in which they are written does allow for some minor differences. The novelizations are written concurrently with the film's production, so variations in detail do creep in from time to time. Nonetheless, they should be regarded as very accurate depictions of the fictional Star Wars movies.
    Christopher Cerasi ,editor for LucasBooks.
so anything from the EU SHOULD be taken seriously.

"The analogy is that every piece of published Star Wars fiction is a window into the 'real' Star Wars universe. Some windows are a bit foggier than others. Some are decidedly abstract. But each contains a nugget of truth to them. Like the great Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi said, 'many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our point of view.'"
    Christopher Cerasi ,editor for LucasBooks.
i have nothing more to say.

It can be. i.e: Holodeck episodes, "Q" episodes, and a few others. But as Tuvok would say: "There is no time for fun. It is illogical."

that's the only reason i ever used EU material in my debates.
    Dude, that's a load.

There is no way that George can seriously check for every, small, minor detail to be perfectly in line. As far as they're concerned, only major things like character uses and the like are checked. None of them give a shit if they show the technological capabilities of the series to vary so or so from author to author.

do i need to repeat myself? they do make minute checks of the books, and if the books contradict the movies in any way,by by publication.

here's some more evidence (thoughthis is years ago in the timeline) that even back then somebody could beam through shields. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVYBT9HJvqc

also something interesting: how the Enterprise AI wasn't seen again after
s07e23 Emergence. Would have made a great film.

This is an example of why we need to finish the Constitution of Sci Debating. You make a claim, back it up.
