Why are cold sores on the lip and not on the ears or eye lids? What is it about the lips that cold sores like?

But nerves are in the nose and eye lids as well.
And as gross as it is, could you get cold sores from oral sex with a person with herpes?

And if I have a cold sore and perform oral sex on my husband, he won't get herpes? Will he get cold sores on his penis?

 

I hate them Cold sores can affect any part of the body. Some have even had them in their eyes. No he won't catch herps. This is totally a load of shit.

 

It maybe a load of shit, but I'm not taking any chances. I've never kissed anyone with visible cold sores but I obviously have the virus since I have had them in the past. Perhaps I already have genital herpes from oral sex! OH MY GAWDDDD

I do believe genetal herps and cold sores are two very different things. Cold sores are irritant viruses of the skin, whilst herps is... well, its not that.

 

They are. They are two different versions of the Herpes Simplex virus; just like the link I provided above states.

I would avoid contact when you have a cold sore: kissing, sharing cups/utensils, etc.. Although it can be contagious/spread, it's not the same as the STD genital herpes.

 

They are both extremely common viruses.

Background: The herpes simplex viruses comprise 2 distinct types of DNA viruses, HSV-1 and HSV-2.
HSV-1 causes oral lesions in approximately 80% of cases and genital lesions in 20% of cases.
The reverse is true for HSV-2, which causes genital lesions in 80% and oral lesions in 20%.
About 80% of the general adult population has serologic infection with HSV-1
with only about 30% of these individuals having clinically significant outbreaks.
Approximately 20% of the adult population in the United States is seropositive for HSV-2.

Do you know if that baby born to a woman with a herpes outbreak and caught it during birth?

 

Babies born with it have only a 50/50 chance of survival.

 

really? thats insane! i've had cold sores all my life, and god are they the worst!
when i was a kid i used to get it on my face, kind of on my cheek, but since puberty it's all been on the lip. i hope they find a cure soon. they are very painful sometimes.

 

Okay, are you guys saying that you can't give a person genital herpes from your cold sores, but they can get cold sores on their genitals? What's the difference? OMFG!!

well i know that cold sores can be passed n to children from the mum or dad, i knwo that when babies are born with cold sores they are generally genital herpes, and not total cold sores

 

why?
