Any Norgies on here? Sock? Need some answers: when was Tromsøya founded? Anyone have links to the history of the town?

Here ya go Dr Founded officially in 1794 even though the first church had been built in 1252. People came to the area first 10000 years ago. Samisk culture in the area dates back 2000 years and by AD 3-400 scandinavian language and culture were present. Edit: I see Cris answered you first.
Actually the above site has an english page. http://www.destinasjontromso.no/english/useful_info.html
Thankyou, gentlemen. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! I'd read there was settlement there including a church as early as 1252; the town probably a couple hundred years prior to that also. I guess no one knows whether the island or the town was founded first? Maybe I'll get hold of the visitor's office. LAN ASTASLEM
Is that trondhiem in english? I hate how english change the words to everything. I'm told my grandparents were from trondhiem.
No Trondheim is another city. English changes mostly the words that include norweigan characters, Tromsø becomes Tromso.
