Stable transuranic elements?
Does current theory preclude the existence of stable elements with high atomic numbers?
I think I read somewhere about an island of stability, but think that it refers to a group of elements more stable than those with lower atomic numbers, but still decaying in minutes, seconds, or less.

They're not talking stability as in does not decay, but rather in the sense that certain transuranium elements might have an unexpectedly long half life. This wiki article explains it quite well.Last edited by kevinalm; 09-29-07 at 10:32 AM.

Absolutely not. The laws of physics are the same throughout the entire universe except for VERY unusual places - like inside the event horizon of a black hole. Even the exact same chemical elements are found in every star we've looked at. Nothing is different out there in normal space.

lol...now thats just funny.
you are telling me Earth and the world we live in as a normal place as all the universe. The rest of the universe is made mostly from plasma...here on Earth we barely see any plasma. There are black holes...dark matter...antimatter out there...huge magnetic fields, different density factors...strong gravitational fields...unimaginable here on Earth...

What do you mean by stable?
As usual...draqon you are an idiot.you are telling me Earth and the world we live in as a normal place as all the universe. There are black holes...dark matter...antimatter out there...huge magnetic fields, different density factors...strong gravitational fields...unimaginable here on Earth...

What i believe Draqon is trying to say is that some of the strangest things permeate the wide infinite cosmos... As i believe even Spock once said, ''It's life Jim, but not as we know it.''
I don't think he was actually saying that the laws of physics can be changed at any given distence in the same universe...

you continue to insult me without any merit to back yourself up.
If I have stated anything it is that we as humans have not discovered nearly enough knowledge and we do not know all the laws that govern the universe, I strongly believe that transuranic elements can exist more stable and longer periods of time in different conditions other than that what is around us. I am not going to share with you the information I have my hypothesis for this, because you are not worth my time.

There was no insult whatsoever. And the question about your schooling was an honest one. I've read many of your posts and have gotten the impression that you probably haven't finished school yet because there are many basic things that you don't seem to understand yet. And if that was the case I was prepared to cut you some slack because it took all of us some time to learn what we know. A good deal of what being discussed isn't even touched on until college.
Now - want to try again, because I've got plenty of merit to back up what I'm saying.

Who told you all that stuff??? Just what makes you think that alters the physical laws?????
