They would have to try pretty hard to equal the cons.

You're right... they're like five scandals short. Whew!

The essence of what I was saying is the same: they are both horrifically disattached and corrupt organizations with little concern for actual Americans, except in those issues which are absolutely necessary to get them re/elected.

And yet ... we still vote for them. In that sense, the current mess is politically wise; if they keep the country teetering at the edge of the Abyss, people will be less inclined to support an upstart third party, especially with the rules skewed against such parties.

It's a sad thing. I know so few committed Democrats; most of my friends who vote Democrat do so because they don't feel there's a viable alternative. Most of the folks I know who vote Republican do so on an issue basis: pro-life, pro-death, heterosupremacist, something. Actually, now that I stop and think about it, I don't think I know one Republican voter who isn't issue-specific. I wonder what will happen when the Democrats finally chase the last liberals away ... where the hell will they all land?

I wouldn't mind being the head of the Communist Party in the U.S., but only in order to dissolve it, attempt to force a new International, and give communism a decent shot. There's a reason Marx said he wasn't a Marxist. We ought to build something he would have appreciated, for once.

Is that also why Jesus wasn't a Christian?

Blowin in the wind by Dylan

How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
Yes, 'n' how many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
Yes, 'n' how many times must the cannon balls fly
    Before they're forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

How many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
Yes, 'n' how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
Yes, 'n' how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

How many years can a mountain exist
Before it's washed to the sea?
Yes, 'n' how many years can some people exist
Before they're allowed to be free?
Yes, 'n' how many times can a man turn his head,
    Pretending he just doesn't see?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

Nah ... I don't think so; back then it had to do with time. It's very possibly, though, why he's not today.

Bob Dylan - Masters of War

    "Come you masters of war
You that build all the guns
You that build the death planes
You that build the big bombs
    You that hide behind walls
    You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks

    You that never done nothin'
    But build to destroy
    You play with my world
    Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
    When the fast bullets fly

    Like Judas of old
    You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
    You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
    That runs down my drain

    You fasten the triggers
    For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
When the death count gets higher
    You hide in your mansion
    As young people's blood
    Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud

    You've thrown the worst fear
    That can ever be hurled
    Fear to bring children
    Into the world
    For threatening my baby
    Unborn and unnamed
    You ain't worth the blood
    That runs in your veins

    How much do I know
    To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
    You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
    Though I'm younger than you
    Even Jesus would never
    Forgive what you do

Let me ask you one question
    Is your money that good
    Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
    I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
    All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul

And I hope that you die
    And your death'll come soon
    I will follow your casket
    In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
    Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead"

    My fav of his.
