I'm opening this new thread for interesting links related to biology and genetics.

I'll add them here as I come across them.

edit: please PM any relevant and interesting links to me

For good overview, with names of leading companies active in the DNA/disease testing area See:

    http://members.forbes.com/forbes/2007/0618/052_1.html

and the four following pages. I own shares in ILMN, the leader. It has done very well for me.

Sorry about that. It has 5 pages and the last had www address that ended with _5 . I incorrectly assumed the first was same but ending in _1. Correct link to first page is:

    http://www.forbes.com/free_forbes/2007/0618/052.html

pages 2thru5 are more facts and less "human interest" slanted.

Also there are several links to shorter related Forbes articles at:

Below is a link (from today's Economist) about how the increased understanding of cellular mechanism is changing the way cancer is (and soon will be) treated.

Many posters here will probably live to see the end of deaths from solid cancers. Hell, I am in good health and even old as I am, I may see it too.

General Expression pattern database of the mouse
    http://genepaint.org/

A huge database with expression patterns in the mouse. Hundreds of genes are added every week and more than 10.000 genes are already done. Unfortunately it is focussing on the e14 mouse stage, but also other stages are being added.

Basically, don't bother doing in situs anymore. Just go to genepaint and check it here first.

The database can be searched for genes, stages, tissues, cell types etc.

A database of tooth shape. Look in 3D in the comfort of your own home at the tooth shapes of a large collection of species.
