I dunno... I couldn't stomach most episodes of the Next De-Generation, so I didn't see many - or at least not that one.
It was a rhetorical question. She did. They had to because they accidentally killed the mummy when it attacked the Enterprise. Half the episode was how to get the baby creature detached from the hull of the Enterprise as its fixated new mummy.
