Idiocracy
Idiocracy is a movie that was written and directed by Mike Judge. (The creator of Beavis and Butthead and Office Space) It's a comedy, so there are some unrealistic things in the movie, but I think it is a plausible prediction of the future. An overabundance of people with low I.Q’s could be the cause of our extinction in the future. Click on the link below to watch the first ten minutes of the movie.

Yes. It was not just dumb; it was terrible. I don't think I laughed at all.

It’s supposed to be dumb.
I didn’t enjoy the movie, but I did enjoy the first ten minutes. It really made me think about the future of humanity. It made me think about the mating and breeding habits of the billions of people around the world with low I.Q’s. A woman with an I.Q of 140 is more likely to wait until she is in her early or mid 30’s before she decides to have a child. But a sexually active woman with an I.Q of 85 could have two or three children before she turns 20.
There were also a couple of other scenes in the movie that made me laugh.

I’m not going to start the never-ending “Is I.Q inherited?” debate with you again. I will say that a child with smart parents is more likely to have a high I.Q by the time he or she becomes an adult, and a child with stupid parents is more likely to have a low I.Q by the time he or she becomes an adult.

Yes, and in the absense of positive teaching of wisdom, curiosity, etc.

I guess that's true to some extent. I don't think you really mean stupid in a quantifiable way, however. I think you mean, more like, stupid culture. Smart people can be indoctrinated with stupid culture. It happens all the time. However, the kind of stupid I'm thinking about isn't the same. A person who has an IQ of 155 and yet is full of stupid culture, in my opinion is NOT a stupid person. That's the kind of stupidity I'm talking about. We're talking about different kinds of stupidities is what I suppose I'm getting at.

There's no guarantee that the son of a brain surgeon is going to be intelligent. It's only likely that he will be intelligent. If a person with a very high IQ is raised by a drug dealer that's not going to change the fact that he's intelligent and that he has a high IQ--unless of course he suffers severe environmental problems. I don't know if that answers your question.

For a very select minority.
You ever play the who you know game?
I know I have. I know a lot of people; I have access to a lot of resources and opportunities than those who don't, just through chance.
And you're leaving out the populations of entire continents. Intelligent Africans get better, higher paying jobs? Only if they've got a family member in government. And even then, all they need is a family member, not a high IQ.

Anecdotal evidence?
You know? I bet the intelligenter (heh) Africans do, on the whole, get better, higher paying jobs. I don't know for sure, but I'd be willing to bet you $20 that they do. But I'm sure the trend for intelligent people to get better, higher paying jobs is more true in first world countries. And read my words carefully. I'm not saying everybody who has a good high paying job is an intelligent person. I'm saying that highly paid people tend to be of higher intelligence/IQ than people who work at McDonalds. It's not hard to believe is it? I don't think it's some weird coincidence that Bill Gates is very rich, as well as very intelligent. Furthermore, this isn't something I should be defending, as there is a lot of evidence that supports it.And you're leaving out the populations of entire continents. Intelligent Africans get better, higher paying jobs? Only if they've got a family member in government. And even then, all they need is a family member, not a high IQ.Last edited by francois; 01-24-07 at 10:01 PM.
