those things are intimately related. Most competent scientists are prostitutes in that sense from time to time, most of the time. All car peddlers&hype masters scientists are prostitutes in that sense (lower scale ones). At the same time "science" self-appointed itself on the higher moral/purpose grounds above the rest of the mortals. Most of us don't mind being prostitutes (if it does not include selling vagina,mouth or anus, I guess), if it pays well. But science? Common, it's not 9 to 5 kind of a job. It doesn't pay that well (meaning average life time earnings). To sell one's brain (and freedom to use it) to funding agency guys and corporations, in an exchange for what? You, idealistic youngsters, think twice while slave master wiill try to lure you in the "wonderful" world of science sweatshops. Technicians will have way more intellectual (as well as other kinds) freedoms (and possibly $) than you will, once trapped. You'll need to fake hard to create "parallel reality" afterwards.
