    Lab Report Problem

I am having some difficulty in writing a lab report because I cannot work out the actual importance of the experiment! It's actual aim was to teach us about errors, but I don't think that the report is supposed to focus on this. The experiment was bouncing a pendulum off of a block and measuring the contact time. This allowed the calculation of the velocity and depth of penetration, and then these two were plotted against each other on the graph. Does anyone know what that actually achieves, or what the significant results are? I originally thought that the hardness of the material was being worked out, but that is wrong. Is it some kind of ratio of the hardness of the block and ball bearing on the end of the pendulum? Any help with this would be appreciated, it is in for friday!
