Proper Timestamping (This post was at 03.58AM!)

Discussion in 'Site Feedback' started by phonetic, Nov 26, 2006.

?

Are you happy with the current system?

  1. NO - I'd like an exact time, none of this vague nonsense.

    100.0%
  2. YES - I'm happy enough with x hours ago, x days ago, x weeks ago.

Please, please, please, please, please can we have proper timestamping back, with cherries on top?

The current system is useless. 2 hours could mean 2 hours 59 minutes. A week means - god only knows, but it's not 7 days, 168 hours or 10080 minutes, exactly.

There was mentioned in another thread a while back, but I don't recall any official say on it.

    Time is good.
    No time is BAD!!!

    Thanks for starting this poll.
I've been bitching about this since the changeover. Even directly pm'd Pseud0 about it (and other issues) but apparently he didn't care. He didn't even fix the bug I told him how to fix.

    Meh.
I think that the Zox/Pseud0 team don't like us anymore.

I support making it a profile option, if that's possible. Otherwise, yes, I want the old way of timestamping our posts back.

i agree with the wolf boy, make it a profile option(and make a format option too so we can see it in ISO format, not that american crap)

As American as I can be... I the date just like you have it, but the time I don't like. GMT is great, but for the most part I only care about time relative to my location. With GMT... I have to add/subtract numbers. I am too lazy for that.

I agree with Absane that the time should be relative to our location. It used to be like this, in fact, and the software apparently still does this. At the bottom of every page you can see something like "All times are GMT -8. The time now is 10:56 PM."

I'm pretty sure that it's not set up as a profile option. It could probably be done, but would take some modification of the vBulletin software.
I doubt that Zox/Pseud0 are willing to do that.
They haven't even fixed a bug which I've given explicit directions for fixing.

Setting the timestamp to the way it used to be just involves clicking a single checkbox.

I'm taking about the part that tells the server what time it is for a user. That's different from the time stamp.

    You may have a point.

Ok, I've switched to another time/date stamp option.

Btw. to make the time/stamp as a profile option we need to alter the entire code. It's not recommended and in this situation it's just needless. I think this current time stamp will satisfy your needs
