I found this article on another website. I don't normally post huge quotes like this, but I thought it was an interesting essay. It got me to thinking. If we re-wrote the Ten Commandments, what would you put it or take out?
You'd think God would have had declared "Thou shalt obey these commandments" as the first on the list. I'd also guess we're just too stupid to figure out we shouldn't be killing each other.
Good post. Now let's work on the seven deadly sins. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Here's a link to an interesting site about the seven deadly sins: http://www.whitestonejournal.com/seven_deadly_sins/
And here's a fun link on that same subject. I came out pretty low on the sin scale. http://www.4degreez.com/misc/seven_deadly_sins.html
In some cases I prefer the book of the dead versions better than the versions that entered the biblical mythos.Though each has a couple the other does not, what tells me that the BoD(book of the dead) was the source for what was written into the bible is the fact that they are basically in the same order. Four concepts are clearly common between the two, but the Bod's I have not caused anyone's suffering was obviously inspiration for the bible's "You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor" and "You shall not covet" and the first two biblical commands I think were inspired from the Bod's first concept from which the bible's third commandment clearly derives, thus in all seven or eight commandments of the ten have been derived from Egyptian religion. Bible you shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself an idol, BoD I have not reviled the God. Bible You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the Lord your God, BoD I have not laid violent hands on an orphan. I have not done what the God abominates . . . Bible Remember the sabbath day, and keep it holy Honor your father and your mother BoD I have not killed; I have not turned anyone over to a killer. Bible You shall not murder. Bod I have not caused anyone's suffering . . . Bod I have not copulated (illicitly); I have not been unchaste. Bible You shall not commit adultery. BoD I have not increased nor diminished the measure, I have not diminished the palm; I have not encroached upon the fields. I have not added to the balance weights; I have not tempered with the plumb bob of the balance. Bible You shall not steal. Bod I have not taken milk from a child's mouth; I have not driven small cattle from their herbage... I have not stopped (the flow of) water in its seasons; I have not built a dam against flowing water. I have not quenched a fire in its time . . . I have not kept cattle away from the God's property. I have not blocked the God at his processions. Bible You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. You shall not covet
