Love it or hate it, the Fifa World Cup is going to dominate the headlines for the next month.

Who's your favourite to win?

England's problem started when they made a playboy-spiceboy hybrid their captain, its moronoc, your captain should impose fireballs of fear in the hearts of opposing minions. Your captain represents your team and country and beckham doesn't quite cut it. They struggled with a very physical side today and came off lucky. My fav to win is Germany or Holland, given that Brazil does not do well in Europe, in fact this world cup was tailored for Europe if you look at the draws. They don't call group E the death group for nothing, not only do you have to survive that hellish group you have to come out on top because the runner up will have their cup runneth over by the Brazillians in the second round- the real group from hell.

Chatha, I agree that Beckham isn't the best choice for Captain. For me, John Terry, Stephen Gerrard or Frank Lampard would all be better choices. Today's game hasn't filled me with confidence, but a win is a win. Bring on Trinidad and Tobago!

Feel like I should cross reference this to the What is the UK like? thread... there was a huge brawl in the pub I watched the game in. It all kicked off when some idiot threw his glass in the air. Pointless.

trinidad played pretty well against sweden... i thought sweden would kick their ass all over the field, and it was a very balanced match

the best one so far was argentina x ivory coast though... ivory's goal was well deserved, but the 2 x 1 score was no surprise

Many don't call Group E the "Death Group" at all!

This whole "group of death" thing is utterly stupid. I've seen at least 3 different groups referred to as the "Death" group by different media sources. There is absolutely no consensus. I see no reason why Group E is "deadlier" than at least 2 or 3 other pools. It happens every time the WC finals come around - people are desperate to label one of the pools as the death group. Most of the groups are "Death" groups.

iran is a weak team, with no tradition, and is lucky to have even gotten in the cup, and so is angola.... angola playing doesnt even look like professional futebol...
