all kinds any kinds all I seek is worthy story one that wets the appetite of imagination and leaves you wanting more the kinds of book that make you realize how much you love reading, the kind of movies that make you realize why the young genre began
Short stories specifically? I find it has to do with the reader too. I have more exacting standards than I used to.
Oh come on! The Baroque Cycle! NEAL STEPHENSON? What do you have against that? (Stephen Baxter has a few good ones - The Manifold series) (Verner Vinge has a new one coming out, or maybe its already out - Rainbows End, based on his short story Fast Times at Fairmont High)
