IS SLEEP RESPONSIBLE FOR HIGH BP ?

    My age 52 years
    Weight 55 kg,
    Height 5' 4",
    Diet Vegetarian , light food
    Exercise Regular
    Disease Nil
    Sleep Sound sleep at night
    Work at desk

So far I had no high blood pressure problem.
Regular check up showed BP values 120/80 to 130/90.

However last 4 months daily I slept only 7 hrs instead of 8 to 8.5 hrs.
Suddenly I found that my BP shot up to 160 / 90.

After taking adequate rest/sleep my BP is improving.

Does this imply that inadequate sleep can be one of the reasons for high BP ?

    Pls comment.

No, I've never seen the result of any study that linked sleep and blood pressure. The main - and most common causes of hypertension - are diet (including sodium intake) and lack of proper exercise.

Having said that, though, is IS known that lack of proper rest/sleep cause stress which will result in higher BP. The effects are only temporary, though, and the BP will return to normal when those conditions are corrected.
