Body's physical and chemical reactions during extreme stress???

...basically what happens when a body comes under fast, extreme stress?

how do the muscles react? which hormones are released...

I am doing research for a short story and if anyone can help me out. Instead of BSing, I actually want to present the real facts. Im looking it up o ngoogle and I just want to reaffirm it here.

imagine a scenario..a guy tied to a bed and out of nowhere a loaded gun is placed in his mouth....how would his body start reacting. Obviously he is a coward who trembles at the sight of pain.

The room temperature is very warm 80 or so degrees.
