Santa Barbara Rape Crisis Center served 611 sexual assault survivors and their significant others between June 2003 and June 2004.

The California Department of Justice reported that there were 9,918 forcible rapes reported to law enforcement in 2003, marking an decrease of 2.5% from 2002.

Can you supply some evidence? And, not just the rantings of anti Islamic blogs. I would like real statistics. Real policy towards rape in Islamic nations. And give me the Koran verses sanctioning rape including the five sentences before and after any Koran verse that an anti-Islamic site gives.

The web is saturated in anti-Islamic anecdotes but I am finding the anti-Islamic movemen very weak on standards of scholarlyness.

Anecdotes, until converted into detached statistic, make bad evidence even if there are thousands of anecdotes. Also, the web seems to repackage the same anecdotes over and over again.

Pakistan's problem is not Islam, although Islam is not helping. Do you hold Chritianity responsible for the holocaust? Pakistan has a problem with patriarchal tribalism. The problem probably predates Islam and can also be seen in Hindu India. Arabia also had this problem during the life of Mohammed. Throughout the Koran you can see Mohammed's attempts to put an end to blood feuds between clans.

Even the Hudood laws are not the real problem. The Hudood laws are not being enforced in an honest fashion. They are being twisted and selectively enforced to produce the results they are producing. Aside from being very harsh, the only problem with the Hudood laws are the requirements that only the testimony four Muslim men or a confession constitute valid evidence. The Hudood laws don't allow a raped woman to be punnished. But sleazy tribal Jirga play clan politics with the laws.

People do get jailed and even put to death for rape in Pakistan, just not as often as they should be due to clan politics and the misuse of the four witness requirement by the clan leaders who are judges in the Jirgas. asking four four witnesses to have observed a rape is an absurd interpretation of the Koran.

Find me a passage in the Koran in which Mohammed condones the rape of neighbors.

If my memmory is correct, parts of the Christian old testament and parts of the Koran may support men having their way with womens bodies without the consent of the women in certain situations. I can't condone that and for that reason and other reasons I lose respect for the Bible and Koran but I am not ready to say that Christianity and Islam don't have any redeeming qualities. After hearing call to prayers wafting across Nagin Lake, I know that no matter how mediocre much of Islam seems to me, at least the person calling prayers at Nagin Lake in Srinagar could make me feel his spine shivering, Islamic connection to god.
