Thread: Common UFO Terminology and other Explainations

  1. #81
I'm an open minded skeptic; not the "rabid debunker" type, but the type which asks for a very high standard of evidence.

There are two legal standards of "evidence" in the US court system; civil and criminal.

Civil is the lower of the two, and allows judgements based on a "preponderance of evidence"- Criminal is "beyond a reasonable doubt"... I suggest we have a preponderance of evidence in many "ufo" cases, and even some which approach but do not cross "beyond a reasonable doubt."

    ...

All that can be said is that it is more reasonable to continue with our endeavors as if there is a Cosmic neighborhood which we will join one day, than to presume that we are alone... and ACT like the Cosmos are ours to ruin as we please.

All that matters with evidence in science is that the evidence be testable, reproducible or verifiable. Quantity is meaningless, it is quality that is important. This is how it should be with the legal system as well, but courts aren't about testing hypotheses so much as they are about selling them.

  3. #83
testing hypothesis in a constrained environment requires a priori, ergo whtvr you set out to prove must be first verified in accordance with the same, so the point being...it doesnt matter...

Thanks for good feedback guys, i appreciate it.

some things have kept me busy over past 4 months or so, therefore i wasnt able to post proper feedback and updations to this post. I dont want this thread to sound dead.
Therefore i am requesting you guys to post some interesting pieces from here and there,BUT I WOULD APPRECIATE THAT YOU DONT START A DISCUSSION ON IT, since that would defeat the original purpose of this thread, the idea is to provide compendium as Stryder described.

Do these UFOs have a photo-blurring device? Or perhaps they are equipped with a credibility-nullufication field?

I have to vote that Yes. I believe there are Aliens.
My proof lie in the sarcophagus of an ancient egyptian king who had a painting on his lid of him riding on a rocket up to the sky.
History is a damn thing ain't it?
Ancient texts and even finger painting from Stone Age era.
oh, but people forget about these FACTS.
So now that we've established the possibility of aliens, what about
sightings, pics etc..? Sure check out jeffrense.com and you'll see lots
of em. Tune into the History Channel and you'll learn about USO'S.
So, what do they want with us?
History tells us that they don't want to be known to us.
Conspirists think only our governments know.
But what do they want? To learn about us? To co-exist w/ us?
    Nope.
    None of the above.
My guess is they have been waiting for our population to reach a
"ample sum" which (guess what) it has!
Why? who knows. Maybe they need red blood cells for some reason.
(god, I hope its not food)
I'll tell ya what it ain't, it ain't for us to play patty-cake with em.

This threads not really meant for discussion, however I just had to raise a point that dipictions within art and culture is not necessarily evidence. It's suggested that at a more primative point down evolutions path, painters couldn't necessarily judge distance or scale. It can even be said that painters and artists would be told by royality what to paint or sculpt, if a royal figure wanted to depict something divine then the painter or sculpture would have to improvise only nowadays all that reasoning is lost.

If Evidence was to be collected to the same amount as if dealing with a courtcase that could be difference between convicting an innocent or guilty man, historical dipictions would be dismissed from the case.

What about the legends thereof counselor? The written word in ancient text can be used to prove that there was a reasonable doubt that aliens did not exist.

I believe there are Alien life forms yes.

I wonder why this thread after just 60 replies is so popular?

WOW. This is a fantastic resource. I read through the whole thing and it's stirring up the ol' interest in this kind of stuff.

I'm a believer, but I don't know why. I am extremely skeptical of all things paranormal, but for whatever reason I seem to know in my head that ETs exist, even though I have not seen my usual level of sufficient proof.

Reading through those abduction signs is a bit scary though. I've had all but a couple of those happen, and except for the nosebleeds-as-a-child thing they've all happened in the past couple years. OMGZ DA AYLIENZ R GET ME.

P.S. The following links no longer work. And since I apparently can't post links, I'll have to just give you the titles uder which the links don't work:

    Chiles/Whitted Sighting

    Barra Da Tijuca Photos

    Kelly Hopkinsville Encounter

    Kin-Ross Disappearance

There probably are lifeforms elsewhere in the universe but as at 15:41 today I don't think any of them have got this far (unless life arrived here rather than evolved from scratch). We are just begining to understand some of the complex problems involved in long term space travel/exploration, some I believe are so challenging that they will limit our ability to travel beyond the solar system for at least several centuries, and even then only perhaps to a neighbouring handful of stars. Much of what is talked about in terms of "Hyper speed travel" is pure sci-fi with little or no basis in reality.

I am constantly amazed that when reports of Alien space craft are bandied about as "stood motionary then instantly sped off, or changed direction" that no mention is made of a sonic boom. However 'aliens' steer, manouvre, or propel their craft they will be bound by the laws of our universe.

I'm not sure if this mathematics has appeared in Zion's thread previously but I thought it would be best to include it. It's known that some people believe aliens to exist on various worlds in the universe and no matter how people discuss or argue their cases, the vastness of such a distance seems to be ignored to the most part.

So I thought I would put forwards something for people to look at.

Lets say an alien race existed 1 Light year away from Earth, for those of you that don't know a Light Year is the distance at which light can travel in one solar year.

Light speed itself is 299,792,458 Metres per Second [Source: Google], there is
1,609.344 Metres in a Mile [Source: Google]. Therefore Light travels 186,282.4 Miles a second, or 670,616,629.38 Miles an Hour.

The distance light travels in a year (365.25 days) is 5,878,625,373,183.61 Miles.

The fastest manned atmospheric Jet X-43A reached Mach 9.6, thats 7000 mph [Source: NASA], if this was the speed achievable through spaceflight the X-43A would travel 61,362,000 miles in a year (this is with no stopping for fuel or trajectory changes).

It would take 95,802.38 years for a craft at 7000mph to cover 1 Light Year in distance.

This is why the mathematics makes it incomprehensible that Aliens would stop by for a cup of coffee and a chat.

Personally, i dont think that UFO's abduct people, at least not as much. I beleive that some UFO's might be some of the hundreds of experimental craft, but i have seen some peculiar things, some i beleive to bbe genuine UFOs. I think they just see what they see, and leave. maybe the aliens came from that new planet 581c they found. Who knows?

That would be 1,963,948.79 Years travel at 7000 mph.
    (all mathematics is approximate)

The other thing that the straightforward mathematics misses is the fact that the universe is in constant shift, with planets being orbited moons, while orbiting stars which shift slowly in distance from one another throughout the universe.

I believe that they come from the future, future humans. Either that or that they are simply another race from within our universe coming to study us and how we're so pimp.

Your are forgetting that they may have better technological or physical breakthroughs than us, therefore you cannot rule out that they have found a method of traveling here in an instance

It's not ruled out, however it's pretty unlikely. After all if you could travel light years in an instance, why travel distance at all? I guess you can say this agrees partly with what you think, although it doesn't suggest that some grey manifestation is an alien, more likely a very elaborate hoax.
