Hi Tech Military Security

Greenpeace Invades Secret Base
When you plan for months to invade the US base with the world's most sophisticated communications system, capable of intercepting and monitoring up to 2million e-mails and phone calls an hour, you expect to be apprehended before you even get there. When you actually launch a pre-emptive strike on the base which could shortly become the eyes and ears of the proposed $100bn "star wars" system, you expect more than two men and a dog guarding the front door. "The fact that we were able to get over 100 volunteers into the base shows how easy it would be to take out US defenses. There is no way that the most sophisticated electronic surveillance can guard against attacks by suitcase bombers," a Greenpeace UK spokesman said after the group "invaded" RAF Menwith Hill, near Harrogate.
So, just what are we getting for our money?
It is one of those perception vs reality. In small towns, people leave ther doors unlocked because they do not expect an outside thief will take the trouble to go to a small town to rob. In case of US security, there are only two possibilities. One is greenpeace, crazy people, hikers/bikers, news people: since they are not real harmful, why bother.
The real threat is from outside, well co-ordinated effort. In that scenario, we usually know, who is doing what, when and where. Because it is sponsored by a nation.
So judge for yourself. Paranoia vs reasonable precautions....
