If there was no banning, you and I both know that the forums would be quickley rendered worthless by Lord know's what.

The banning rate is actually quite low (125 including Aquisition and Exosci), as those who have been here a few years can attest. In the past, you had to make some serious waves to be banned. This is the reason that mods find it somewhat humorous when someone complains that we are facists or nazis or elitists - that we delete posts on a whim, or posts that go against our point of view. Go back in the archives and see some of the beatings we mods have taken - myself, curly1 when he was a mod, Coffee and now Xev. If we deleted posts capriciously or banned those who wrote them, theywould have never been allowed to remain.
No... to get kicked out of SciForums in the past, you have to have been pretty unrepentantly smarmy, or have taken a slap at Porf - and even then many members have been allowed to stay.
Peace.
