I wonder if there ever has been a study done on attachment issues as a human science. Perhaps the origin of the prior remark has it's founding in beings that keep trinkets or pictures of others as a fetish to decorate their own identity . Even the idea of let's say a ministry keeping names of people they choose to without the other beings knowledge of their use of their names.
Seems fetishing a being has variable affect to the being used. Perhaps a mom or dad chooses his or her kids as a sexual fetish, yet isn't directly pedofilic; would one of the symptoms be that a grown man in his 20's and likes the idea of life may wonder why his penis size doesn't match his body form. Or a daughter that likes the idea of life is used as inspiration for sexual activity. Or a mom or dad presumes itself a greater advanced being than it's child, and chooses to claim authoritative position as an overlord of it's child or children variably often through weakening their child or children by keeping the child or children as "theirs" too much before & & past the time a child could have or may have had what it should, it's own physical liberty without a gamut of any kind cluttering or oppressing it's physioself.

Our human psyche has both conscious and unconscious components. We have control over the conscious aspects allowing us to make choices. The unconscious aspect, is often under the radar of consciousness, and is more prone to being connected to unconscious quirks, habits, compulsions, phobias, etc., that others can see, but which the originator may remain unaware of, or they may just accept as being who they are; beyond control.

One trick the unconscious mind uses, to become more a part of consciousness, is called projection. If one can't see what is on the inside, in the unconscious, the unconscious will often shine outward, via the imagination and appear to overlap reality, loosely analogous to a movie overlaying physical scenery. The composite of conscious sensory input and unconscious projection we see, appears to be one thing, thereby allowing us to use the conscious and unconscious at the same time.

If I left you in the woods at night by yourself without any supplies, an unconscious fear might appear. One may begin to feel or sense the shadow in the trees is a wild animal. This imagination overlay is based on projection. Some people will start to run as though what is not even there is there.

In the case of trinkets to decorate oneself, the trinkets have an unconscious overlay that enhances their subjective prestige. It is not fear, like above, that is overlaying, but a more positive sense of worth. In the imagination, the projection adds a type of magic to the object, so the person who wears it will subjectively feel more whole. Both the conscious and unconscious work together, although still partially unconscious, allowing a person to feel they are on all cylinders.

Trinkets, for example, are important to all cultures including the most ancient and primitive. The prestige effect from the unconscious mind offers a way for the unconscious processing power of the brain; main frame brain, to organize and integrate the group. The conscious mind has choices and may cause group dissociation, but the collective unconscious trinket projection, acts as glue. The individuals may not all get along but they remain together.

As for trinkets, I only collect round things and shiny things.
