So a white guy can come into a majorly black banquet and tell black people what to do with their finances, like they are a little kid or stupid? It would be okay if he went and danced with the other white people there too, but nope, only the black couple. You would think E*Trade would have more sensitivity on the issue, seeing the history of black people in this country.

Eh... if he did this several times with exclusively black couples, then sure... but he only approached a single couple, making it pretty obvious it was more because they "did something unusual" (actually researching and allocating their retirement funds) rather than because they were black.

Why would it be OK to treat white people "like they are a little kid or stupid" but not black people? Rude is rude.

In any case, it didn't sound like we was treating them like they were stupid.

White people were never slaves in this country, at least not like black people.

So if you treat whites and blacks the same way, you're a racist?

I'm guessing you are probably in favor of "affirmative action"?

That thing that so many colored folks I know have said is almost as bad as classical racism?

I don't want to talk about it.

If you think that something was wrong then contact E-Trade and tell them so that they can look into it and take appropriate actions.

Actually, if you paid an iota of attention, you would have noticed the white guy complemented the black couple. He said they were diversified and thoughtful - that is a compliment. And he didn't tell them how to invest. How you can take a complement and turn it into something vile speaks to your racism and prejudices, and not E Trade's.

Did he also compliment them for being so articulate?

The ad complements the black couple for being savvy investors and says they are E Trade kind of people. Now how you can translate that into racism is bizarre to say the least.

The black community has many members with very good paying jobs, like in sports and music. However, although they can make plenty of money, they don't seem to know how to create wealth, which is different.

Too many of the black males with money, will live beyond their means, carrying large entourages and expenses to make a subjective impression of being rich. This tendency squanders their wealth. Even a middle class black single male, might spend all his pay check on clothes and the weekend, looking good and appearing to have more money, based on his spending rate/day over the weekend. If you make $1000 per week and spend this in two days you spend like someone making $3500/week to look good.

The commercial appears to be more about a black couple who thinks more like the less cool whites, in the sense of sacrifice, save, and invest and not trying to live large among your peers using conspicuous consumption.

I know many blacks who are the best dressed people always in style, but this is not cheap to do. The added expense is not being saved and invested so when they are about to retire, their million dollar wardrobe is worth pennies to the dollar. The mindset needs to change but with the democrats pushing segregation using the term diversity, the blacks can't copy the uncool whites who save. If you do and join the republicans to be more part of the melting pot of one nation, the liberals will attack since they prefer segregation/diversity with separate drinking fountains for money and wealth.

So Wellwisher's conclusion is that blacks are just plain dumber and don't know how to create wealth.

Well, that might not have been a racist commercial, but at least now we have a racist post as an example.

    Hetero-bashing E*Trade commerical

So a gay guy can come into a majorly hetero banquet and tell hetero people what to do with their finances, like they are a little kid or stupid? It would be okay if he went and danced with the other gay people there too, but nope, only the hetero couple. You would think E*Trade would have more sensitivity on the issue, seeing the history of straight people in this country.

garbonzo, you see what you want to see.

The commercial is not racist - you are racist, because you are the one who has decided that the only relevant characteristic of these people is their skin colour. I defined them according to an exactly equally irrelevant characteristic. See how dumb it looks?

I think Kevin Spacey was clearly meant to be Jewish, and the dancers were Baptist. (I mean, just look at Spacey's suit.) It's downright anti-Semitic! You know who else was anti-Semitic? Hitler, that's who.

"White people" and pretty much every ethnicity on the planet has been a slave to someone at some time or other, There are still instances of Slave gang's that enslave immigrants. It's not something that is exclusive.
