http://www.cthulhulives.org/shoggoth/ "There are some things that man was not meant to adapt to musical theatre, and A Shoggoth on the Roof has long been regarded as a musical that cannot and must not be produced. The original 1979 attempt to stage it ended in mysterious failure. A daring Chicago theatre company, Defiant Theatre, was prepared to take on the cursed show and stage the world premiere in Chicago this October. A theater space was rented and work had begun on the production. However, under threat of legal action by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick, the composer and lyricist of the beloved classic Fiddler on the Roof, Defiant has regretfully decided it must cancel the production. Shoggoth is, once again, silenced." Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
The production was abandoned for reasons that are not entirely clear. "Not entirely clear why it was abandoned" may be equated to "mysterious failure" but the latter description seems to impute more than is necessary. Further: In 2014, En Shoggoth på GothCon performed a successful run of three shows at that year's GothCon in Gothenburg, Sweden. Not quite the same as "not meant to adapt to musical theatre", eh?
Actually it was successfully performed before that in 2007: "As of 2007, the 2005 Teater Tentakel production in Stockholm and the 2007 Trinity Gamers production in Dublin, Ireland were the only known successful productions of the show." But then we all knew there's no REAL Soggoth curse didn't we? Well, SOME of us at least..
