If you where running planet earth and told that you where given 80 years before aliens would attack, and take over the earth, what would you do?

Say if you ran the world, what would your top 10 things to do to deal with that situation you knew was coming, and they did not like you.

What would be your list of 10 things?

    Just speculating

    1. Reconcile all currently warring nations - UN already has the mechanisms; just need to allocate more resources and power to them
    2. Prune the power of all churches (maybe by taxing them to finance 1.)
    3. and the same with megacorporations .
    4. Convene an international science think-tank to deal with the technological aspects of defense
4a. and a civil defense one, to plan what tasks need to be done, how assigned, in what sequence, among the populations.
    5. Amalgamate the armed forces and missile capability under one central command (representative of all nations.)
    6. Establish local food, necessities and energy production everywhere
6.a - which liberates an immense amount of hardware and fuel (now used for transporting things around the world) for the space effort.
    7. Once everybody's fed and peaceful, employ excess (not needed for local sustenance) able-bodied personnel in defense projects (emergency shelters, medical facilities, warning systems, communications; industries that produce components, vehicles, munitions, etc.)
    8. Stop the manufacture of useless crap and convert those factories to the defense effort.
    9. Once everybody is used to central control, divest national governments of their border guards, secret police and crowd-control capabilities; leave local law enforcement and judiciary in place; let governments administer their countries, not rule them. (All the revenue saved can go toward social services.)
    10. Establish and maintain excellent information broadcasting facilities, so that all the people know what's going on; are well prepared for whatever their task is when the alarm comes.

So our productivity takes a hit.

So we spend trillions to move our current large factories and farms to local areas where (often) there is not enough water, or arable land, or space. Costs skyrocket as Phoenix farmers try to grow crops in the desert and Manhattanites tear down buildings to put in farms.

And our consumer-based economy takes yet another massive hit.

Traditionally iron fisted dictatorships don't last very long.

Make escape rocket capsules for rich folk's children, so they can fly to ISS, Moon base, Mars base, and make a new civilization

Better them then our planet. There are different ways to achieve productivity. Consider alternatives, or die.

Where is there no space? Arable land is not an issue: there are several other ways to produce food besides plunking seeds in ground. (Most of the ground is salvageable, if we used it better.) The challenge is to look at each locality and figure out what method of food production is most suitable. Nothing heavy has to be moved anywhere: you build with local materials.

What costs? We don't charge people money for basic necessities: we need them strong to build up defenses against the aliens. Phoenix stops wasting its water on lawns and asks the Natives how to companion-plant corn, squash and beans. Manhattan goes into vertical hydroponics, big-time, in the abandoned skyscrapers previously used for money-shuffling.

    About time.

Tradition rarely included invasions from outer space.

Well, i suppose we could spend 79.999 years talking about what-all propositions are no good and the rest, screaming.

My personal response would be your welcome to the earth, humans have messed it all up.

Personally i think mankind has been done over and over, as if beings have time travel, then nothing here matters anyway.

So in my judgement, they would be welcome to the earth, probably run a better civilisation than ours. Maybe aliens can build cities where people can live next door to one another, without them using weapons on there neighbours.

If i where to choose, i would say let them have it, we have messed it up big time.

Imagine how we must seem to them. A world where people cannot even live next door to others, humans are maniacs. The gov have to use techs just to make sure humans can live in cities and leave people to live there lifes. They must see the human race as maniacs. No wonder they did not just come out with the fact that aliens are here already.

If you do not believe thats your bag. But i think they are here already.
