Half the US homicide rate is because of blacks

    The percentage of whites in the US population is 82.9%; of blacks, it is 12.6%, and other is 4.5%. The homicide rates for each group are (per 100,000): 4.5 for whites, 34.4 for blacks, and 4.1 for other (USDOJ statistics for the period 1980-2008). Now, (.829 * 4.5) + (.126 * 34.4) + (.044 * 4.1) = 3.7305 + 4.3344 + 0.1804 = 8.2453

    4.3344 of 8.2453 = 52.5%

Blacks are responsible for 52.5% of an average US homicide rate of 8.2453 per 100,000.

I assume these calculations are correct, or if not, please feel free to tell me where I went wrong and why. Discuss.

Just so you know, I used additional population information and it still came out to half to majority of the US homicide rate is the fault of blacks.

Well, if you wanna' put it that way: 100% of the homicide rate is because of [1] whites bringing blacks over as slaves, [2] whites freeing black slaves yet never forcing former slave owners off their plantations and granting them to the former slaves, [3] never escorting slaves off their former slave masters' plantations and granting them multiple-acres and a few beasts of burden in the west from which they would have been able to achieve the same American dream that the Irish and Slavs did and [4] having eliminated legal discrimination but never effectively provided under-educated, under-privileged black people with any means to better themselves directly after the titanic social shifts of the 60's.

Did you really just post this thread for a legit discussion or to spread hate?

Crime rates are always higher in poor communities, and the average income and wealth of Afro-Americans is a fraction of the figures for Euro-Americans. If you adjust for that, you'll find that the crime rate in our few high-income Afro-American counties is comparable to that in equivalent Euro-American jurisdictions, and vice versa. In the increasing number of genuinely integrated communities, the statistical breakdown of crime perpetrators tends to parallel the breakdown of the population.

In short, "black" people in America--taken as a demographic--are much poorer than "white" people, and that accounts for most of the difference in crime rates.

There is, however, one more factor. It's acknowledged that the rate of illegal drug use among Euro- and Afro-Americans is virtually identical. Yet an Afro drug user is twice as likely to be arrested as a Euro; once arrested he's twice as likely to be prosecuted; and once prosecuted he's twice as likely to be imprisoned. In other words, an Afro-American drug user is eight times as likely to be in prison as a Euro-American, and our prison population shows this.

So a sizeable number of Afro-Americans have prison records, which makes it almost impossible to get jobs. People without jobs are desperate, and they will often do anything they can to get enough money to buy food and rent a home. This takes them into some really evil enterprises, in which disputes cannot be taken to the court system so they're solved with guns. This adds to the murder rate.

You could have found this information in five minutes with Google. So I tend to agree with Promo: your reason for posting this question was probably not an honorable one.

Speaking as a Moderator, I will be keeping a very close eye on you from now on.

If you include the 1980's you are going to get a distorted picture of reality. Those days were marked by drug violence sparked by the introduction of crack cocaine. Also, I bet most of the victims were also black, so it's a tragedy all around.

Yeah, supposedly around half of murder victims in the USA are black. Kind of telling that the OP doesn't evince any interest in that statistics.

Well it doesn't pay to recognise that blacks are also victims, does it?

    What's to discuss?

Do you draw any conclusions from your calculation? If so, tell us what you conclude, then we can discuss whether you're right or wrong.

The thread is still open, so -- while I know that you like to style yourself as a victim -- it's pretty obvious that the collection of mods is playing a "wait and see" game to see where it goes.

    @Volodmyrr
Do black middle class people kill more people than white middle class people?

But aren't Afro-Americans more likely to be selling the stuff than Euro-Americans?
Isn't it the black part of town that you go, to get your drugs?
I get my information from the TV series "The Wire", so please correct me if I'm wrong.
One consequence of illicit drug legalisation might be to have even less money going into Black communities,
while the pharma companies experience a Bonanza.

You might go the "black part" of town to get the drugs. But it’s a higher chance that the drugs were made by white people to start with, and then distributed to the black community for resell.

My reaction to the OP is, so what. What would you have us do with this material? How is it a cause for social concern? How can this information be used to improve our society? Are you suggesting that blacks be treated differently as a result of this number? Are you suggesting that race is the cause for the higher murder rate? If you are, a single statistic does not prove or make your case. As others have pointed out to you, there are other factors that you have not accounted for like economic and educational factors. Is this your rationale for treating millions of people differently or somehow punishing them?

According to the FBI there were 15,760 homicides in the US in 2009. Given the US population is 300+ million; the US murder rate is not very high. Your statistic by itself is meaningless.

    Arcua:
Yes James R and Fraggle both have a history of baiting; insulting, name calling and pursuing personal vendettas at the expense of forum policy and their personal credibility, but that is not relevant to this particular thread as they have not yet done any of those things in this thread.

No, I ask this question in all seriousness. Anyway...

But if poverty "causes" crime then how is it that during the 1960's when economic prosperity became more widespread and blacks became richer, the crime rate exploded, rather than decrease? Surely the crime-poverty connection is a tenuous one at best. And what's all this adjusting for poverty I hear? What does that mean? Apparently blacks can be just as economically deprived as whites, but commit far more crime. Just look at predominantly white West Virginia, which is much poorer than most urban/rural black communities, yet has far less crime. Also, I've never seen any tangible evidence of discrimination in the justice system. Maybe blacks are more likely to be arrested/prosecuted as an end-result of committing more violent criminal acts?
