Prepare for Internet Blackouts (a message to all who are good)

    https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...UJY/edit?pli=1

a provocative, if not somewhat shallow, commentary on our times.
Apparently I'm not the only one who thinks internet blackouts may be the "next move."

Ho, hum. This garbage is no better than the nut standing on the corner with a sign reading, "The End is Near." In places like the Middle East, sure - but not in Western nations. <yawn>

you think I sound like a nutter, eh? that's fine, and to be expected.
Let me throw a metaphor out there though for what it's worth:
Think of our "democracy" as a frog. If you throw a frog into boiling water, it will immediately jump right out. However, if you put the frog in a pot of water that is being heated slowly, it will stay put until, at the very end, it gets boiled to death. I think as a democracy we are very, very close to the boiling point, if not already there...

Guess what, you don't have a right to internet service. The future will feature more and more blackouts due to our aging electrical grid and ever increasing demands put on it. Maybe form networks of like-minded individuals in real life?

How about this metaphor. Our democracy is a turtle and socialism is a hare. There is a race and all of the woodland animals are gathered around to watch. But just as the race starts Jesus appears. The crowd gasps, and then is amazed to see that Krishna, Moloch and Ra appear. Suddenly a huge cage dropps and all of the gods start to rumble. The gods are in such a battle that the turtle, the hare and all of the woodland creatures are smashed to smitherines. The carnage is horrific. When the gods realize what they have done they all chuckle with a sort of "gee wiz that figures". They all agree that this is kinda sad but then Ra says, "hey lets post our fight on the glactic youtube" and it becomes the most watched glactic youtube video of all time.

I personally think my metaphor is way cooler than yours - Ha!

No, I don't think you sound like a nutter - I think you ARE a nutter. What you sound like is a chicken little (remember him?) of the Internet. Apparently you have no idea about the structure and operation of the net.

And yeah, we all know how to boil a frog. At least you could give credit to the guy who first came up with that. You are aware that it was Samuel Clements (Mark Twain) right? (Well, you probably had no idea, did you?)

Just curious, the link in the op is useless. There is no information. All I saw was "content removed". What was all the freakin out about?

Fortunately the frog thing is a myth. The frog will jump out once he decides it's too hot, no matter how long it takes to get there.

Correct - and the same is true of humans also. If you doubt that, SomethingClever, just take a look around the world. Fortunately, in our version of democracy, though, we correct the problem with ballots rather than bullets.
